DIY steam cannon for a sauna stove
Greetings to lovers of a hot bath! This article will focus on obtaining dry hot steam from a minimum amount of water in a bath oven.
It is known that the lower rows of stones in the sauna stove are heated from the furnace more than the upper ones. But we pour water to "give steam" to the upper stones. Water simply does not reach the lower stones and wet steam is obtained. How to be?
On sale there is such a simple device that fits above the firebox, in the lower rows of stones:
Such a tube is called - a steam gun. In this example, the trade mark is "Sabantuy". You pour water into a stainless steel container, it flows down into a corrugated stainless steel tube with holes. The water evaporates into the space between the stones. And then the steam is heated even more, rising up. And we get the so-called dry steam.
In this case, not much water is needed, the humidity in the steam room does not rise much. In general, sauna lovers will understand that this design is the best option for obtaining dry steam. Prices for the steam gun "Sabantui" - from 2200 rub:
The price depends on the length of the tube. Steam cannons of the Magola brand are of a similar design, but their cost is higher - from 3500 rub. There are other designs as well. For example, welded from stainless steel sheet or pipe:
If you do it yourself, then for this you need argon welding, purchase a stainless steel sheet. Not an option for everyone. And to order it will be even more expensive than the Sabantui cannon for 2500 rubles. But here, too, amateurs can save something with their own hands. As you can see in the first photos, there is nothing complicated in the design. So, we get:
Stainless steel bellows gas connection. A length of 0.8 m will be sufficient. Cost: RUB 240-280
In a store or plumbing department, we purchase a steel tee and two corner pieces. As well as pipe sections with a thread of the required length. Along the length of the pipes, look at the depth to which you will immerse the steam gun inside the oven. I think such a set will cost ~ 300 rubles.
View of these elements in the process of assembling the Magola steam gun. The main thing is that all elements fit in the overall design in terms of thread diameter. Next, we purchase a stainless steel bowl at any pet store (70-100 rubles):
You can also use a stainless steel mug, but pouring water into it from a ladle is not very convenient.
In the center we drill a hole for fixing it on the pipe. We screw a nut onto a threaded pipe, then put on a bowl and fix it with a cap nut. But in this plug, you need to pre-drill holes, as shown here:
Such a design with side holes is necessary so that the steam that goes through the neck does not go vertically upward, but comes out sideways through the water in the container.
Drill holes in a gas corrugated pipe or cut grooves for water outlets with a hacksaw for metal. There is one detail in the Sabantui brand steam gun - inside the corrugated tube there is burnt cast iron shot for better evaporation of water:
But instead of shot, the tube can be filled with scraps of stainless steel, ceramics or, in extreme cases, steel nuts without electroplating (no zinc). The steam gun assembly process is shown in the video:
There is no need to use a plumbing reel - they just screwed everything up tightly and that's it. Linen thread or silicone tape will eventually burn out from the heat of the oven.
In total, you can assemble such a structure with your own hands for RUB 700-1000 Corner pieces and pipe sections made of steel from the Sabantui steam gun are covered with heat-resistant enamel. But this is not necessary. A liter of such paint will significantly increase the cost of the product.
This design is not an idea for additional income with sales through ads. You can also negotiate with the shops of sauna stoves. And for those who live in the countryside: all residents of their own and neighboring villages can be equipped with such a steam cannon in their baths.
By the way, the design can be simplified, the corrugated tube can be fixed directly on the tee if it is purchased with an external side thread (internal upper). Or purchase adapters, male-to-male fittings separately.
In this design, the pipe was not sawn through, but the top was grinded off with a grinder. A continuous row of transverse holes formed. But this is too much. I think less is needed.
Who uses such a steam gun in their sauna stove - write your review. I don't have one. I found out about her recently. As you have free time - I will collect.
