Want Cucumbers all year round? Growing at home - is it worth the bother
Cucumbers, as we are all used to, are traditionally grown in a greenhouse or in an open-air garden.
But it turns out that these tasty and healthy vegetables can be grown at home, while the growing process is so simple that even a novice farmer will not have any difficulties with it.
And here the newcomers have a completely natural question: "is it worth bothering", won't it be a waste of time? I can tell you with confidence that you will like the result.
Variety
Not all varieties can be used for growing domestic cucumbers, but only those that are: early ripening; shade-tolerant, self-pollinated. I liked the varieties "Blizzard", "Bianka", "City Cucumber" and "Home Miracle".
Soil composition
Cucumbers feel most comfortable in a loose, light, nutritious substrate. It is most convenient to purchase ready-made soil, but some growers prefer to make the soil on their own.
All that is needed for this is to mix in equal proportions earth, humus, sand and wood ash.
Seed preparation
Selected healthy cucumber seeds must be processed in a weak solution of potassium permanganate, then rinsed and allowed to dry.
Next, the seeds must be wrapped inside wet gauze, placed in a container, which is covered with a lid.
When the first shoots appear, you can plan to plant seeds for the coming days.
Choice of containers
When choosing a container for planting cucumbers, it must be borne in mind that an average of 5 liters of soil is required per adult plant. You can plant the seeds in plastic disposable cups or immediately take a more capacious container - a bucket, bowl, box.
Landing features
The seeds of cucumbers must be deepened into the prepared ground by 2 cm, while the distance between the seedlings should not be less than 5 cm.
After planting, future cucumbers need to be well watered and placed in a bright place. At home, this is a windowsill or balcony.
Organization of care
· Watering. It is necessary to moisten the soil as it dries out, while doing this with exceptionally soft water.
· Temperature. Cucumbers do not tolerate cold and prefer to stay indoors at temperatures ranging from 21 to 24 degrees.
· Lighting. Cucumbers need to provide access to light for 12 hours daily. Usually, additional illumination with an artificial light source is required, the distance from which to the plant should not be less than 30 cm.
So, is it worth growing cucumbers at home? The answer is undoubtedly only positive. Indeed, with the help of this simple technology, you can enjoy delicious self-grown cucumbers throughout the year.
