Garden beds in a small area: how we made plants friends with each other
There is only one problem for a real gardener - the eternal lack of space for planting what I would like to grow. We solved this problem in an original way - we simply "made friends" between the plants.
One of the biggest "bad things" is cabbage. Now she is hot, then she is cold, then give more water, then leave and do not bother. Dill is also a difficult plant to grow. A little overflowed, it will rot, underfilled - it will dry out. But he grows where he likes. We "asked" the cabbage to "take care" of the dill. We water it well, and around the future crown of cabbage, we scattered dill seeds. Grew up well. This bush grows on pickling umbrellas.
Zucchini traditionally try to plant at a distance from each other. They take up a lot of space. And we planted them close and water them in a circle. Thanks to this, each plant takes root to the side and also covers its neighbor with its leaves, making life easier for him during the heat.
Flowers or vegetables? In our family, the question is different: first we grow it for the soul, and for the stomach it grows by itself. Cucumbers have already hatched in these thickets. Flowers delight us and protect the young cucumber from the night cold. Soon the club will fade, we will remove it and the cucumber will grow.
Beans, corn and peas are very friendly with each other. The legume roots provide corn with the vitamins it needs, and it helps the climbing plants to climb.
Garlic is friendly with everyone, it can be planted around strawberry bushes. But pumpkin is a harmful plant. He will take everything for himself. Plant it only separately.
Cucumber, zucchini and melon are "friends" in a peculiar way. They can be pollinated and as a result you will get “another fruit” with the taste of cucumber, melon and zucchini at once.
Another fickle thing is salad. Any neighbor will "crush" him. Find a small garden for this plant, and like this it can be planted very close together.
It is not difficult to "make friends" between plants, if you follow the advice of what can grow next to. If in doubt, take some space and experiment.
