Organic ban: there will be a new category of land that cannot be built up

Land plots where organic products can be grown will receive a special status. The amendments to the Land Code are expected to take effect in 2025.

Especially valuable agricultural land

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation is preparing amendments to the Land Code, which will allocate land suitable for growing organic crops into a special category. Such plots will receive the status of especially valuable agricultural land, they cannot be withdrawn from agricultural use and given for construction. The criteria that such lands must meet are now described.

Regional authorities will determine where such areas are located and establish their boundaries. Information about them will be entered in the USRN.

What is it for

The initiators of the amendments believe that land suitable for growing organic products should be protected from construction, since they are of great importance for food security throughout countries.

In the production of organic products, no pesticides, artificial fertilizers, growth stimulants and other "chemicals" are used. But that's not all. Now producers of organic products work in accordance with GOST 33980-2016, which indicates what the permissible level of soil contamination with heavy metals, oil products and pesticides can be. If there are other industries near such a site, buffer zones are set up to avoid any contamination. All environmental risks must be minimized.
