Want a gorgeous Orchid? Feed her with top dressing, which a neighbor shared with me a few years ago
There is snow outside the window, and the orchids are in full bloom on my window. Some have completely blossomed, others release flower stalks to please by the New Year.
My phalaenopsis bloom all year round with short breaks. One of the secrets of success is the top dressing, which I use regularly.
Composition of the product
The fertilizer with which I water my epiphytes is an infusion of garlic with succinic acid. Garlic - a source of organic acids, minerals, has a pronounced antibacterial effect. Succinic acid is a powerful antioxidant that accelerates the process of photosynthesis, stimulates leaf development and flowering.
The mixture of components has a pronounced positive effect on orchids:
· The root system is strengthened;
· The turgor of the sheet plates increases;
· 2-3 months after the start of feeding, the matured plants begin to intensively increase the leaf mass and form peduncles.
Top dressing serves as a preventive and therapeutic agent against bacterial diseases. Weakened by improper care, neglected orchids especially need it.
The remedy is recommended for use after plant transplant, when orchids stubbornly refuse to bloom. Fertilizer cannot be used more than once a month.
Preparation and use of the solution
I take a large clove of garlic, grind it in a garlic press and pour 0.5 liters of water. Let it brew for 6-8 hours. I dissolve a tablet of succinic acid in a glass of hot water. I mix both solutions and bring the volume to 1 liter.
I water the orchids at the root or by the submerged method. Watering Rate: Water should appear in the pan. Do not allow moisture to get on the leaves, and even more so in their sinuses.
This can cause rotting of the leaf plate or root collar of the plant. After 15 minutes. the fertilizer should be drained from the pallet.
Phalaenopsis respond well to additional wiping of leaf plates with a damp cotton pad moistened with the composition. I process the leaves only from the outside.
After 1-2 days, the infusion must be removed by wiping the foliage with water. The stomata, cleaned of dust and receiving an energetic stimulus from feeding, begin to work actively. The leaves become healthy and firm.
Top dressing of garlic and succinic acid should not replace the application of other mineral fertilizers. Year-round orchid flowering is possible only with the organization of additional supplementary lighting of plants in the evening with phyto-lamps.
