Are you pruning the Dollar Tree? How to form a gorgeous plant without problems

A chic, lush crown of a beautiful shape is what many money tree owners strive for. I have come across the opinion that the shape of the crown is inherent in the plant from the beginning and it cannot be influenced. Allegedly, you can buy the "wrong" stalk, from which an ugly tree will grow. Of course, this is a misconception.

Correct pruning of a young money tree will help form an ideal crown that will delight the eye. And it doesn't take much effort. I tell you how I do it.

Choosing the right pot

The perfect money tree needs a special pot. First of all, it doesn't have to be very deep. In a deep pot, the plant will grow a very developed and large root system, all its strength will go to this.

We do not need this at all - this is not how to achieve a lush crown. Therefore, we choose a shallow container. As the young plant grows, we increase the diameter of the pot - it should roughly match the diameter of the crown. But the depth should increase very slightly.

Pinching the leaves

Did a young cuttings have 4 pairs of leaves and a new bud? Disinfect the instrument - I use nail scissors - and remove it very carefully. Two new ones will appear in its place, the trunk will begin to branch out. The crown formation process will be launched.

Does your money tree branch out in different directions and resemble a slingshot in shape? Use the same sterile tool to trim both branches. Leave the distance from the trunk in the region of 10-12 cm.

Timely pruning is not the only thing that matters. To form a gorgeous crown, you need a lot of bright light, but not direct, but slightly diffused.

An important tip: turn the pot with the plant from time to time so that the light hits all of its areas and there is no "skew" in the form of a longer shoot where the sun shines more. Overgrown branches also need to be carefully pinched.

You also need to follow all the general rules for caring for a dollar tree, otherwise it will die before it grows and forms.

With the help of pruning, you can correct an already formed, adult plant, but ideally you should start with a cutting. Be sure to disinfect all tools you use to trim wood, and clean hands or gloves are also important.
