Laying laminate flooring at a strict guy
The ceiling is ready, the walls are the same. The moment has come to lay the laminate! On the floor is old linoleum, under which there is a plank floor. The floor creaked before, so there waspre-prepared. I didn't think about how to lay a laminate on such a floor for a long time and even started laying it. Moreover did it from the door at the request of a serious owner, a builder by profession. However, later it was even necessary to redo the first row a little, since it did not fulfill it the way the customer saw it. And the point is this.
The wall that continued from the doors turned slightly and went outward, so the first row fit tightly only along the threshold, and along the wall the gap gradually increased to 3-4 cm.
In order for the one-piece canvas of the first row to cover this gap, I trimmed along the doors, but the owner did not like this trick much. Raising his eyebrows, he insistently recommended putting the first row without any trimming, and making a tapering insert in the gap against the wall. I agreed with him almost immediately. All the laminate that was assembled into the flooring had to be slightly moved away from the wall, from the side of the doors, with a mount and reassemble the first row of new strips.
I did not put limiters near the walls at the ends of the laminate, as is usually done, since the room is not wide. But the gaps of 1-1.5 centimeters were left to the eye.
Previously, more often it was necessary to use a roll substrate, but this time it was sheet, 3 mm thick. Such a substrate did a good job of compensating for the unevenness of the old floor, which, despite the presence of linoleum, still remained. To prevent the substrate from shifting and the edges of the sheets not to be on top of each other, I pre-fastened them with ordinary tape.
It was decided to do the styling across the room. In view of the longitudinal flooring of the old floor, I consider this option the most suitable. In this way, the appearance of a squeak of the laminate itself, which could well appear if it were laid along the boards, can be prevented. And if the joint of the lamellas also coincided with the joint of the boards, then in this place when walking there would definitely be a noticeable deflection, and this despite the presence of linoleum and a substrate, because of which the laminate would almost certainly creak.
So, before laying the laminate on an old plank floor, especially in the direction of the boards, it should be leveled. For this, you can use fiberboard, plywood or OSB.At worst, it is worth leveling the drops with some kind of building mixture and letting it dry.
For the rest, the installation was carried out to the very end as standard, taking into account the fact that not to use trims shorter than 20-25 cm. I threw out such pieces, so a small supply of laminate flooring was needed. Based on my experience, I will say that it is good when there is a margin of at least 0.5 squares per 10 meters of area.
After my apologies for, so to speak, my small joint and judging by his last reaction, the owner was ultimately satisfied. He said that we will make one room in a while. I am waiting for a call.
How the floor turned out and how the rows were assembled can be seen in the video.
