We make water for watering indoor flowers "Soft". And the plants will thank you with beautiful flowering
Novice flower growers often cannot understand why their indoor pets wither and bloom poorly. The most common reason is the high hardness of tap water, which is observed in many regions of the country.
Having been a florist for over 20 years, I have tried many ways to soften water. You will be amazed: a positive result is visible in just a week.
What is hard water, its negative effect on plants
Tap water contains high amounts of calcium, magnesium and chlorine salts. Watering with liquid from the tap leads to soil salinity, on the surface of which a whitish bloom appears.
First of all, the root system suffers, then the leaves begin to turn yellow and die off. Scant short flowering is observed.
By softening the water for irrigation, you'll make sure your indoor plants come to life before your eyes. The foliage becomes bright green and elastic, the protrusions of the peduncles and the formation of buds begin.
Calcium and chlorine salts have a negative effect on all indoor flowers. They are especially sensitive to hard water, which can lead to their death - orchids, azaleas, hydrangeas, bromeliads.
Ways to make water soft
The easiest way is to pour water into a jar and let it stand for 1-2 days. When watering, use only the upper 2/3, the residues with sediment are drained. Cleaning the liquid with a pitcher filter will give the same result.
Plants respond well to watering with rain or melt water. In summer, the liquid can be frozen, pure water changes its state of aggregation faster, and the concentrated salt solution should be drained in time.
Hard water is alkaline. Acidification with citric acid (3-4 g per 10 L) and the addition of table vinegar softens the liquid. Infusion of 100 g of high-moor peat in 10 liters or 1 tsp. wood ash in 1 liter makes the water soft and quite suitable for irrigation.
In flower shops, hard water neutralizers are sold. The cost of the product is about 100 rubles, the rate of use is 1 cap per 1 liter.
Boiling leads to decomposition of salts, which precipitate in the form of scale. This method is not encouraged; when heated, the water loses its valuable qualities, becomes "dead", it can do more harm than good.
Select the water softening method that best suits your conditions. Plants are very responsive to proper care and will certainly thank the attentive owner with abundant and long flowering.
