What to give a builder for the New Year: an idea for a do-it-yourself themed gift

The long-awaited holiday is approaching and the eternal question will arise on the agenda of the pre-New Year weeks - what to give? Perfume, a bag for documents, a set of skewers - all this looks trite and has long become boring. But what if you make a gift with your own hands? We give an idea, and you implement it!

Wooden themed wall clock

It's no secret that watch movements and numbers can be bought without much difficulty. It remains only to figure out where to adapt this mechanism so that the watch looks original, and most importantly, conveys the theme of the profession or hobby.

The easiest option is wood. For watches, you can use both a solid saw cut of the trunk, and make a type-setting case from scraps of timber.

With a saw cut, everything is very easy - on the back side you need to make a recess for the clockwork and drill a hole. The watch blank should be coated with varnish or wood oil. Secure the numbers with glue.

The typesetting case is a little more difficult to do - it needs to be fastened with dowels and glued, holding it with clamps. Further, everything is the same: make a recess for the mechanism and drill a small hole for the arrows. Nice stylish Roman numerals are made from nails.

Metal case

In this case, you can use both a welded body and some separate part, for example, a disc from a circular. With proper possession of a welding machine, the flight of imagination will be limited only by the size and weight of the product. You can use any scraps of metal and connect them in any shape you like.

A circular saw blade is a ready-made watch case. It remains only to insert the mechanism into it and glue the numbers; if desired, the dial can be painted or, in general, painted. But here it is also worthwhile to provide for a fastening so that the watch hangs reliably on the wall: a small loop of wire, tacked by semi-automatic welding, will do.

Concrete clock!

The design idea does not sleep and concrete began to be used even for decorative purposes! Monolithic clocks are not as difficult to make as it seems. You need to find a round, even shape, preferably made of plastic, and pour 2 cm of a slurry of cement and sand into it in proportions of 1: 2. The form with the solution must be shaken a little so that the mixture is as dense as possible.

After pouring, it is necessary to make a recess for the mechanism with a pin for the hole on the back of the case in a liquid solution. In order to get the fastening, you need to put a wire with the appropriate bend into the mold. At room temperature, the solution will rise in two days and the clock will be ready!

The dial is already a matter of taste, but an empty concrete "pancake" with arrows looks quite stylish. If desired, the numbers can be painted with regular paint.

A theme clock is a great gift for a builder of any specialty. The present will turn out to be one hundred percent original and will always remind of itself by the quiet clicking of the arrows.
