Scientists have found that the neural network in the human brain and the network of galaxies in the universe are similar
The astrophysicist and neurosurgeon decided to conduct an unusual comparison experiment and found out that the network neural cells of the brain and the cosmic network of galaxies in our universe have amazing similarities.
Scientists have shared the results of their unusual comparison on the pages of the journal Frontiers in Physics.
Who made the comparison and how
Such an unusual experiment was carried out by F. Vasa (astrophysicist at the University of Bologna) and A. Feletti (neurosurgeon at the University of Verona). They studied two of the most complex systems in the world: the galaxy system and the human brain.
And, as the results showed, despite such a colossal difference in scale between these two systems there are striking similarities that are characterized by identical difficulty levels and self-service.
What was found in common in the two systems
As you know, the human brain contains up to 69 billion neurons, which form one of the most complex networks. At the same time, the observable part of our Universe has its own network, which consists of at least 100 billion galaxies.
In addition, in both systems, about 30% of the total mass is occupied by neurons and galaxies, which, again in both systems, form long fibers and nodes of concentration of neurons / galaxies.
And about 70% in both systems there is a so-called passive component: in the brain it is water, and in the Universe there is dark matter.
Based on these general parameters, the scientists compared the modeling of a network of galaxies with specific regions of the brain.
And here are the conclusions the scientists came to.
So different in scale, but the same in design
Studying the obtained data, scientists came to such an interesting conclusion: the distribution of oscillations in the neural network of the cerebellum on a scale from 1 μm to 0.1 mm almost completely coincides with the distribution of matter in cosmic volume, of course, on a completely different scale from 5 to 500 million light years.
In addition, scientists made several more calculations, namely, what is the average number of connections in each node, and also studied the so-called clustering of several connections.
Once again, surprising similarities were found between structures so different in scale.
From which the scientists concluded that, despite the colossal difference in scale, the formation of interactions in the brain human beings that in outer space obey the same physical laws that govern both galaxies and neurons.
