What wood to use

Logs, logs, dead wood trunks, various branches are suitable for making saw cuts. Various halves and quarters of logs will come in handy: they can fill the space between the rounds. The best species: oak, beech, linden, elm, walnut, aspen, birch, larch, pine, cedar, spruce, as well as fruit trees.

The main requirement for the material is that there is no rot in the wood. If you finish with cuts in rooms with high humidity, for example, in a bath, it is better to use only oak, larch or cedar. These rocks are not afraid of water.

Harvesting cuts

The theater begins with a hanger, and our work begins with the preparation of cuts. Cuts are made using a circular saw, chainsaw or a regular hacksaw. The latter option will take a little more time, but it is most convenient in the absence of skills in working with electric and gas powered tools.

Measure the area of the wall to be decorated before sawing. For example, the area is 2 * 3 meters. Mark a platform of the same size on the street in order to lay the blanks on it. This is necessary in order to immediately control the amount of material and prevent overspending. A small surplus (stock) will not harm, since during installation it may not be enough.

Next, cut the cuts 3-5 centimeters thick. The optimum diameter of workpieces is from 5 to 30 centimeters excluding bark. The bark should be removed, as various insects can live in it.

Sawed and barked workpieces should be thoroughly sanded on all sides. It is better to do this with a grinder with an emery disc or a grinder. There should be no saw marks and other irregularities on the workpieces.

If you used raw wood, then let it dry. To do this, remove the cuts in a warm, ventilated room and lay them in such a way that there are gaps between the workpieces. Before drying, clean the cuts from dust and sawdust.

Processing depends on the fastening method

When the blanks are dry, you need, as they say, to bring beauty and protect the wood from moisture. But in this case, you must first decide where and in what way the installation will be performed. The method of wood processing depends on this.

For example, work is planned in an indoor environment with normal temperature and humidity. In this room there is an ordinary plastered or concrete wall, plasterboard covering. Installation on liquid nails or silicone should be done here. In this case, the processing of cuts with an antiseptic is not necessary - it will worsen adhesion (gluing). Only cover the front side and ends with varnish!

If the work will be carried out on the street, for example, in a wooden gazebo, then screws or self-tapping screws should be chosen as fasteners. In the bath and in other damp rooms, you should also use this metal fastener. Where wood can be adversely affected by moisture or high temperatures, it is worth to carry out preliminary treatment with an antiseptic (bioprotection or fire-biological protection), and only then with varnish or oil.

That is, the cuts that will be used outdoors or in damp rooms and fastened to screws are first treated with an antiseptic, and then covered with varnish or, for example, tung oil. Cuts mounted on liquid nails are varnished only on the front side and ends.

Mounting

For installation on liquid nails, a flat, dry and grease-free surface is required. If the wall is brick or has irregularities, then it is better to attach sheets of drywall, OSB or plywood to it and glue the cuts on them. Apply liquid nails in a zigzag or wavy line to improve the initial setting.

The cuts are mounted as follows: first, large and medium-sized elements are fixed; then the voids are filled with small cuts; the perimeter or abutment to the ceiling and floor are aligned with triangular and other elements with an even edge. You can do to align the abutments and round cuts, but a small diameter - 4-7 centimeters. Small cuts are made from branches.

But the design can be completely exclusive and depends only on the flight of your imagination!

When installing, be sure to observe one rule - there must be a gap of 2-3 mm between the elements. Wood can absorb moisture and therefore expand. If you do not leave a gap between the elements, the cuts will fall off.

If the wall is wooden, the saw cuts are mounted according to the same principle, but with screws. To prevent the workpieces from cracking during installation, drill holes for the screws. Usually one attachment point in the center of the round is enough, but for massive cuts it is better to use 2-4 attachment points.

For a brick wall in a damp room, you should first make a grid of boards, and then screw the blanks onto it. Then the finished, decorated lattice must be fixed to the wall. And also the grate is good for decorating barbecue areas and open gazebos.

Lack of wood decor

With its natural beauty and environmental friendliness, this method of decorating interiors has a significant drawback - it is problematic to wipe dust on saw cuts. Over time, it falls into voids, where it is difficult to reach. Such a wall must be regularly vacuumed and wiped down.
