Buying building materials in winter with discounts is fraught with not only benefits, but also disadvantages that cannot be ignored.

Please note: we are talking about the storage of materials in a remote, not equipped area, and not about a bathhouse in the yard, the construction of which is planned in spring!

Benefits

• Save money with seasonal price reductions. Brick, reinforced concrete products, aerated concrete, wall blocks, sawn timber, cement and bulk materials can cost 20–35% less. Manufacturers and retailers need to survive during a period of low demand, which forces them to reduce prices. In different regions of the country, these numbers may differ, but this is generally the trend.

• Savings on delivery and handling. In winter, when most construction equipment is idle without work, renting a truck crane will cost approximately 15–20% less. In addition, it will be much more profitable to attract people to unload: builders take on any work during the "winter holidays".

• Everyone can steal. Yes, our people love to drag everything that is bad. If you store material on a construction site that is not guarded, then in the spring you may miss a part, and maybe all of the building material. If the building plot is located in an open field, and even not fenced, then, perhaps, instead of saving, there will be continuous losses. • Additional costs will be required to clear the area from snow. In winter, as usual, snow falls and sometimes it pours quite a lot. In order not to put building materials in the snow, the snow must be removed first, and this costs money. Sometimes you even have to hire a tractor to clear the way for the truck to the construction site.

• Storage conditions. Most building materials require special storage conditions. For this you may need: a canopy, a dry warm room, the presence of pallets. If such conditions cannot be provided, the material may become unusable. Of course, there are building materials that can be stored in any conditions, for example, reinforced concrete: it is not afraid of frost or rain. But the usual brick, brick and slotted block; porous ceramics; gas silicate blocks and aerated concrete must be placed on pallets and covered with cellophane. Metal profiles and fittings should be stored at least on the site under a canopy. Lumber, cement and various building mixtures require moisture protection. In addition, the shelf life of some materials is limited and they may lose their properties by the beginning of the season. For example, it is better to buy cement and cement mixtures after the fact.

When does it make sense to buy building materials in winter

It makes sense to purchase materials in winter when the access roads to the construction site are closed during the spring thaw. For the Moscow region, for example, it is April and May. This measure is taken in order not to waste precious time. In this case, you should go to the store in winter and collect your discounts and bonuses. In all other cases, the preliminary purchase is not based on serious grounds.
