How easy and simple it is to grow ginger on a windowsill.
Ginger is a very useful plant that is often used for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes, not only in traditional medicine, but also on the recommendations of doctors.
You can not only buy ginger in a store or market, but also grow it yourself at home. But in order for your ginger to be juicy and healthy, you need to know how to plant it correctly and then care for it.
Rules for growing ginger at home:
1. The first step is to find planting material. This should be done in late February or early March. Ginger root can be purchased at the store, but you should choose one that has buds on it. The planting material should be smooth and dense.
2. Then the root is placed in a solution of potassium permanganate, which should be warm and light pink. It is necessary to keep the root for a couple of hours, then put it in a plastic bag and wait until the eyes appear.
One root can be divided into several pieces, but so that each of them has at least one bud.
3. Next, take wood ash, dip each piece of ginger into it and let it dry. After that, you need to take flower pots and plant the ginger root in them, but in such a way that the bud is on top, and not in the soil.
The soil for cultivation is prepared as follows: pebbles or pebbles are placed at the bottom of each pot to ensure drainage.
In a large container, mix humus, sand and sod soil in equal proportions. If the soil is too heavy, you can add small straw or foliage.
4. Taking care of ginger isn't difficult. After planting, the root is sprinkled with soil 2 cm. Then water the ginger. This plant loves moisture, so in no case do not allow the soil to dry out.
Sometimes they even use mulch to help the moisture evaporate more slowly. Straw or tea leaves are used as mulch.
5. Shoots will appear in 1.5-2 months. In the summer, ginger can be taken outside and planted in open ground.
Remember that ginger prefers shaded areas. If the plant is properly cared for, then ginger can grow up to 1 meter in height.
6. Before the onset of the autumn cold, the ginger tuber must be dug up and cleaned of the earth. To preserve ginger for a long time, it must be placed in a cool dry place.
Most often, the root is stored in the refrigerator. You can leave a few roots for planting.
