How to make an invisible patch on torn linoleum
A month later, grief happened to the new linoleum in the apartment - in several places it was torn to shreds with a hacksaw on a tree. Unexpectedly, of course, but that doesn't make it any easier. I will show you how you can repair linoleum using the example of one of the damaged areas.
The first step is to find scraps of the same canvas, if possible, or another similar one, and cut off a piece from which you can cut a similar patch. It is better to take such a piece that would overlap the damaged area with a margin.
Now we need to find a metal ruler and a construction knife. Instead of a ruler, you can take any other even strip of metal. It is better not to use a tree, since the knife can cut into it and this will not allow you to make one even and clear cut.
Then we put the found piece of linoleum on the hole, mark the edges of the damage and do it along the perimeter (around) of the torn place through cutting of linoleum through two layers at the same time!
The piece placed on top should be motionless all this time. This is extremely important. If you can't keep it in place, you can attach it with tape until the end of the cut. You can cut the patch with any convenient shape. In this case, I got a rectangle with beveled edges.
The next step after trimming is to remove the damaged area. If the linoleum did not move during cutting, the upper cut piece will be completely identical in shape to the damaged one.
Now, for convenience and for the future, I additionally glue adhesive tape under the cutout so that the pasted fragment does not stick to the floor and, when the entire linoleum is displaced, does not wrinkle and break out.
You can, however, do without scotch tape, but I have used it more than once and I like this move. Although, to be honest, sticking in the tape and sticking it from the bottom can be difficult.
It's time to glue the end of the cut piece and let it dry a little, at least 5 minutes. I use polyurethane glue for gluing. You can take any other polymer. Super glue (second) is not very suitable as it leaves a shine and hardens the edges. Well, at worst, you can use it.
While the clipping smeared with glue dries, I also glue the ends on the floor with glue and also let them dry.
After a few minutes, I simply gently insert the cut piece into place, gradually pushing the joint along the entire perimeter with my fingers. If even something goes wrong, the insert can be lifted and reinserted, as was the case with me (this point is in the video).
Excess glue on the top of the linoleum is removed even before it dries with a wet cloth - it rolls up the excess and easily removes it.
This is what linoleum looks like after the restoration is completed - photo 7. True, I did not get into the pattern, since there was no such cropping, but in color everything matched well. Even if the joint line is a little noticeable, this is not scary, since very soon it will wear out and become completely inconspicuous.
That's the whole technology. Write how you deal with similar difficulties.
