The correct way to connect aluminum and copper wires: a short instruction
In older houses and apartments, the wiring is usually aluminum. When repairing, sometimes it becomes necessary to connect copper and aluminum wires. But here a simple twisting cannot be done, since this is fraught with heating and ignition of the junction. How to connect these wires correctly - read on.
By special connection
There are special adapters and terminal blocks for connecting aluminum and copper. You can use them. But if there is no store nearby, and it is impossible to buy these devices, then connect the wires using a regular bolt, nut and four washers.
What is necessary
The principle of connecting copper and aluminum is the so-called metal intermediary, which will be the bolt. You will need: an M4 bolt 16 mm long (the best option for home wiring); three wide washers; one grover washer (spring); nut; insulating tape.
How to connect
On both wires, you need to make ears for the diameter of the bolt. Next, put a wide washer on the bolt and on top of it the ear of the first wire (copper or aluminum - it does not matter). The ear of the wire must be laid along the thread: so that when tightening the nut, it tightens.
A second wide washer is placed on the first eyelet, and then the second wire. After that, the wires are covered with a third wide washer. The grower is placed on top of it and the nut is tightened. The connection is ready. Further, it must be reliably insulated.
