I collect ash from stoves, and I will use it from the very early spring on many plants, I tell you why

Throughout the winter, I carefully collect ash from the stoves, which we heat in the bathhouse and in the chicken coop, so that later I can use it for various needs. Our ash is strictly woody. We do not throw any other materials - polyethylene, plastic - in the oven. Now we are changing the fence around the site, so a lot of old boards with nails fall into the furnace, and the ash is simply teeming with all kinds of metal.

In order to sift the ash and separate it from the coals and nails, we have made a box with a mesh bottom. I pour the ash into it, shake it several times, and the beautiful ash is ready. I throw coal and waste into the trash.

Ash is the summer resident's secret weapon

Also, when I burn cut dry branches, tops, I try to collect such ash separately. It is a free, natural and easily digestible fertilizer. The content of trace elements in such ash is in the most optimal proportion.

How to apply ash

I have been using sifted ash from the earliest spring on many plants:

1. In the greenhouse, I fertilize the first greens so that it receives more nutrients, because the soil is not yet warm enough and a lot of energy is spent on heating the plant.

2. When planting all seedlings, I put ash in each hole. Cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini - everyone gets a handful of ash, which means a lot of trace elements and potassium, necessary for the development of plants.

3. Beets need ash during leaf formation and closing of rows like no other vegetable. Therefore, you should not regret the ash on it, because the future harvest depends on this fertilization.

4. Potatoes can be protected from wireworms with ash. To do this, when planting in the hole, along with the seed potatoes, lower a handful of ash.

Other uses of ash

In addition to the garden, a large amount of ash goes to the chicken coop - there is a basin in which the chickens bathe to get rid of feather parasites. Ash serves them as a medicine for this. I constantly change it and fill it up. This is especially important for winter keeping in a cramped chicken coop.

In addition, there are always small pieces of coal in the ash, which chickens peck. It acts as an adsorbent in their goiters and intestines, saving them from diseases.
