How to remove a dent from a wooden surface in 5 minutes: an easy way

It is easy to damage a wooden floor: it is enough to carelessly move furniture or drop something weighty. Anyway, you can easily leave dents on any wooden surface. How to remove them - read on.

What is necessary

To remove a dent you will need:

• regular iron;
• a small piece of cotton cloth or a simple napkin;
• household hair dryer;
• half a liter of water.

How to remove a dent

• The place of deformation must be moistened with water: it is enough to pour 30 ml of liquid onto the dent.
• Then put an intermediate layer on the dent - a napkin or a piece of cloth at least 10 * 10 cm in size. Pour some water over this layer.

• Iron the place of deformation with an iron heated to the maximum temperature. If the surface is not varnished or painted, the steam function can be used.
• The procedure is carried out until the dent completely disappears. You may have to repeat it two or even four times.
• At the end of the work, you need to wipe off the remaining water and dry the restored place with a hairdryer. The fact is that moisture can absorb into the wooden surface, deform (swell) or leave a stain.

How it works

Wood expands (swells) when exposed to moisture. But in a natural way, water is absorbed for a long time and you need to resort to the acceleration process - heating. The hot surface of the iron turns water into steam, which quickly penetrates the wood fibers. Wood fibers, having received moisture in this way, return to their original position.

If there are torn fibers at the edges of the dent

If the edges of the dent are torn, as, for example, from a strong blow from the back of a hammer, then the iron cannot completely correct this problem. Water and steam will restore the surface, but slight deformation will remain. Here, after steaming the dent, you need to work with fine sandpaper - this will help hide the bumps.
