Abundantly flowering lilac bushes are very beautiful and always delight me and my family. And how many admiring words I hear from neighbors and passers-by!

Lush bloom is a sign of a healthy plant that is properly cared for. I know that the agricultural technology of lilac, in addition to fertilizing and watering, must necessarily include pruning the bushes.

For myself, conditionally, I distinguish several types of cropping:

· Annual;

· Anti-aging;

· Thinning;

· Formative;

· Regulating flowering.

Each type of pruning has its own purpose, I will write in detail about each type.

1.Annual.I spend it in the fall. This pruning will make the bush healthier. I remove deformed, diseased, damaged branches. If lichens appear on the shoots, I will cut them off too.

This will allow the bushes not to waste extra energy in winter. If you didn't have time in autumn, then early spring (late March - early April) is also suitable.

2.Anti-aging. There are several varieties of lilacs in my collection. It all started with the most ordinary one, which grows in many. The bush is aging, it is more than 10 years old and there are fewer and fewer inflorescences on it with each.

Since last year, every spring, I have been cutting out 2-3 old branches, stepping back 40 cm from the ground.

Places of sawn cut must be covered with garden pitch. In the summer, replacement shoots appear, they will begin to bloom in a couple of seasons.

3.Thinning. Lilac grows quickly, some varieties are especially prone to crown thickening, so without thinning pruning, there will be no good flowering.

When a new bush appears in my collection, I start thinning it from the third season. For one pruning, the bush should not lose more than a third of the shoots.

When thinning, it is important to remember about the optimal ratio of young and lignified shoots. I cut the root growth, as they say, at the root.

4.Formative. For me, such pruning is the most important, because the lilac on my site performs a decorative function, so the formation of bushes is a priority task.

I begin to shape the bush in 2-3 seasons after planting. Usually I achieve a spherical shape of the bush. You can also form a bush in the form of a tree.

5. For abundant flowering. Lilac has an inherent feature - if in one summer the bush bloomed very abundantly, then in the next season it will rest, bloom weakly and not for long.

In order to prevent such drops, I carry out a special pruning to stimulate flowering. In early spring, before the growing season, I cut off part of the shoots with flower buds.

By pruning and shaping the crown of lilac bushes, I try to ensure that each skeletal branch has its own sector for growth and development, then a lush, long flowering will not be long in coming.
