The second floor of the house "sweats": how to deal with it correctly, in the mind?

Construction is not only a responsible business, but also devilishly expensive, so many Russians are building a house with two floors and at first they live only on the first floor, and they begin to study the second when they appear on it money.

And since sometimes you have to wait more than one year until this happy moment, the second floor often stands uninsulated and poorly trimmed. And many probably noticed that condensation often accumulates under the roof.

But let's figure out why condensation appears on the roof space? Many write that most often the matter is in insufficient ventilation of this very under-roof space: they say, put yourself a roofing aerator or a couple of supply valves for 500 rubles each and forget about problem.

In 10% of cases, this is true. But in 90% of cases, the reason lies not even in the second, but in the first floor! The point is the low-quality vapor barrier of the first floor.

It is here that we cook food, live, breathe out moist and warm air, which rushes up to the ceiling. Then simple physics takes place: if the lower part of the insulation lies not on the film, then the insulation calmly absorbs moisture and heat.

Over time, moisture passes through the insulation and rises under the ridge. There she collides with icy air and dew falls out.

So, we have established that the cause of condensation on the second floor is the incorrect vapor barrier of the first floor. If in your house the ceiling of the first floor is made of planks, as I have done (see. photo), then the solution is to seal the joints using the "warm seam" technology.

To do this, you need to buy an insulating harness Vilatherm or Porileks (diameters from 6 to 20 mm, depending on the width of the slots) and lay the harness into the holes. After that, the place must be covered with acrylic sealant and smoothed with a brush dipped in water.

On the log house, the finished warm seam looks like this:

The same technology should be applied to the ceiling: there should be no steam slots. Only by localizing the steam on the first floor will you get rid of condensation on the second.

And only if, even after these actions, the condensate still falls out, you should start ventilation of the under-roof space. First, we eliminate the cause, then we fight the consequences and refine the system. Only there.
