Greetings, dear flower growers, summer residents!

For a long time I have not posted publications about flowers and dacha farming. It's just that since autumn this topic has not been very interesting to many. And now the time has already begun to prepare plants for spring.

From autumn to the end of winter, this is usually a period for half-sleep, the so-called rest of plants from flowering and reproduction. They are gaining strength for spring, when they begin to develop rapidly. But I want to note climate changes and trends for the second half of January - February.

Previously, my flowers on the windowsills bloomed at best on March 8th. I was always glad that on the morning of March 8 the buds were blooming, as if specifically in order to thank me for leaving.

But in recent years, the timing of the ejection of buds has shifted almost a month earlier. Did you notice that too? In the past 2 years, my husband even noted that my flowers no longer congratulate me, but him on February 23! He's laughing.

So, if earlier I started to trim and fertilize pots in the soil from February, now, I think, it's time to start from the second half of January. Every day the sun is getting bigger, daylight hours are increasing. My geranium in pots, I see, has already strengthened with new shoots. When planting, I usually plant 3 cuttings in wide pots and in spring there are always many shoots and peduncles... The bush becomes very lush.

But in order for geraniums to bloom a lush bush, throwing out even up to 7 peduncles, you need help her grow in breadth. Personally, I do not allow geraniums to stretch like a tree, I cut them off immediately, as the branch reaches a height of 15-20 cm from the pot. Now, in January, you can cut off all the stretching shoots.

But before that, at least a couple of days you need to feed the plant so that the bush has the strength to quickly recover and heal wounds.

I am now preparing a nutrient solution for this, which later I simply water for a week. The solution will be an excellent fertilizer if mixed correctly and to prevent souring. Such a solution can be prepared periodically and during the flowering period.

I take ash as a basis (ash, not coals). Ash is sold in flower or country shops and is inexpensive. But I have my own, from family kebabs I collected in a bag. I pour a couple of glasses of this gray powder in a 3-liter jar with spring water and leave it to brew for a week (if more, it’s not scary, it doesn’t deteriorate). I do not throw out the shell from raw eggs, grind it with a blender and also add it here.

Separately, for a day, I soak in a liter of water to remove potatoes, carrots and, if any, banana peels. If there is green rye, which I usually sow for seedling soil, I also add it. But already this tincture cannot be stored for a long time (it deteriorates), I keep it for no more than a day and use it right away.

I mix and water the liquids. Believe me, this solution contains all the nutrients for the rapid growth of the bush in sufficient quantities. If there are many mature shoots, then peduncles from the pot can reach 5-7 at the same time.
