Every grower has ficuses, but do you know what you shouldn't do in any case? I tell you how to grow without problems
Ficus, a wonderful house plant, seems to many growers to be extremely unpretentious. However, you can very easily, unfortunately, make unforgivable mistakes with him, leading to illness and death of the "green pet"!
At one time I was convinced of this from my own experience and I think a few notes on how to grow and maintain a chic healthy plant may be useful to you!
Ficuses are capricious in relation to light and shadow. Blackout inhibits plant growth, but direct sunlight also weakens the immune system.
Therefore, the best option is to place the ficus pot where it can receive diffused sunlight for about 8-10 per day. In winter, from November to February, it is recommended to turn on supplementary lighting with a special phytolamp for an hour or two a day.
It is well known that ficuses "love" to swim, for which they are sprayed with water at room temperature. But in addition, it is necessary to remove dust from the leaves in a timely manner, for which it is simply enough to wipe them with a damp cloth once a week.
And there is also an opinion that ficuses love feeding! Everything is correct. But only during the period of active growth of a young plant. In winter, when the time of rest for the ficus comes, fertilization only hurts. In particular, it prevents the root system from "falling asleep".
Growing ficus involves transplanting it into a larger pot - after all, the roots need to develop! However, you cannot take too large a container - in this case, the ficus will grow only the underground part, "forgetting" about the development of the top.
Ideally, the diameter of the new pot should be only 5-8 cm larger than the previous one. Provided that the roots of the plant completely occupied the earthen lump.
One more feature of ficus care deserves mention. If the plants have dried, diseased leaves, in no case should they be torn off by hand.
Firstly, it is so very easy to damage the branches and stem of the ficus. Secondly, it creates the risk of penetration through the "wounds" of infections.
The correct approach is to trim the leaves with disinfected scissors and dust the cuts with wood ash.
Summing up, we can say that if the listed mistakes are not allowed in the cultivation of ficuses, then in general, we can really say about these indoor plants that they are unpretentious!
