Balcony decoration for a penny: an alternative to expensive laminate

There is a great alternative to finishing the room with laminate - old barn boards. You can disassemble an old barn or other structure.

There are ready-made barn boards that some companies sell.

The finish is made of natural wood planks 5 mm thick. Lamellas are cut from pine logs, after which one side is artificially aged, so the entire structure of the wood is preserved - knots, cracks and chips are of natural origin.

The finishing is available in two sizes 1800 140 and 1800 190 mm. The edges of each plank are cut at an angle of 45 °. This is done so that when the lamellas are connected, a gap does not form between them.

Installation technology

Consider the technology of finishing the balcony. The surface was pre-leveled, putty, sanded and primed. If the lamellas are thin enough, then they can be glued to the sanitary sealant, because there is a concern that the mechanical method of fastening may damage the boards. There is an option for fastening to the frame.

To mount the material, you will need the following materials and tools:

• sanitary sealant and assembly gun;
• tape measure, pencil;
• square, level;
• electric jigsaw.

The procedure for attaching imitation of old boards:

1. The height is measured at several points.

2. The lamellas are marked and cut to size with a jigsaw.

3. The back of the lamellas, on which burrs are formed, is cleaned with a sharp knife.

Advice! Since the boards have different shades, it is recommended to lay them out in a certain order before final installation in order to find the optimal combination of shade and texture.

Next, to glue the first board using a level, a vertical line is drawn, after which you can stick the lamellas: silicone is applied to the back of the board, after which it is tightly pressed against wall. The protruding silicone is immediately removed with a napkin.

It is very easy to stick the lamellas on a flat surface, but after installation 5-6 boards it is necessary to check the level, as the chamfers do not have a rigid adhesion, therefore the vertical may "float" a little.

This is how the finished finish looks like an imitation of old boards: everything is quite beautiful, neat and stylish. All that remains is to choose a suitable skirting board and fix it.

In addition to the balcony, artificially aged boards look great in almost any room. If you correctly approach the interior design, then they will organically look even in the bedroom.
