My Favorite Cucumber Feed For Those Who Want A Record Harvest
Cucumber is a culture that can be found not only in greenhouses or vegetable gardens, but also on window sills and balconies. In order for the cultivation of this plant to be successful, it is necessary to choose the right fertilizers and apply top dressing on time.
In one season, I apply fertilizer three or four times, but if the weather is not very favorable, then five.
It is important to consider that cucumbers, first of all, need nitrogen, magnesium and potassium. But at the same time, you should not use all known feeding methods at the same time, otherwise you can overfeed the plants with nitrogen.
You can buy ready-made fertilizers at the store. Each package has instructions for use, and the timing of the introduction. But I prefer to use a folk remedy that always gives a good result. This feed is based on chicken manure.
What are the benefits of chicken manure for vegetable crops
First of all, feeding based on chicken manure contains a sufficient amount of nitrogen, which contributes to the full growth and development of plants. But besides this, such a fertilizer allows you to saturate the soil with other substances that are no less useful for cucumbers.
1. Magnesium. The substance improves the taste of fruits, stimulates growth and increases yields.
2. Potassium. Increases resistance to diseases, stimulates the formation of new cells.
3. Calcium. Promotes more active development of the root system, provides protection against diseases.
4. Phosphorus. Regulates photosynthesis, promotes bud formation.
Feeding based on chicken manure also contains minerals such as cobalt, sulfur, manganese, zinc, and copper. They are quite easily absorbed by plants and affect the plant for a long period.
Also, the top dressing contains biologically active substances and vitamins that contribute to the more active development of vegetable crops.
It is important to consider that improper storage of the fertilizer makes the fertilizer useless for plants, since all biologically active substances evaporate. Moreover, top dressing can be dangerous for plants.
Also, in the process of preparing and applying top dressing to the soil, it is important to observe the correct proportions. Excessive concentration will lead to the death of the plant.
How to make chicken dung-based feed
I prepare this fertilizer by fermentation. I put one part of the droppings in a large plastic barrel with a tight lid and fill it with twenty parts of water. At one time, 1 liter of droppings and 20 liters of water are enough for me.
I close the barrel and leave it in a dark place for two or three weeks. Fermentation time depends on the ambient temperature. A sign of the finished fertilizer is the complete absence of air bubbles.
After that, I filter the solution and water the plants under the root.
Chicken droppings can also be infused. For this, the substance, which has already quit (not fresh!), I fill with water in a ratio of 1: 1. Stir and leave overnight. I dilute the finished top dressing in a ratio of 1:30 and put it under the root.
This top dressing is especially relevant at the beginning of the season, since it contains a lot of nitrogen and promotes more active growth of green mass.
It is important to consider that all top dressing is applied after rain, when there is a lot of moisture in the soil. If the weather is dry for a long time, then the garden with cucumbers must be well watered.
