Vietnamese melon - delicious toy
Bright striped, like a toy - oh, yes, Vietnamese melon will grow with us!
I don't know the variety, subscriber Alya sent seeds, just Vietnamese melon and that's it. The only thing I learned from Ali is that she will not be pollinated with my other varieties of melons.
I always try to find out more about what I decided to grow, so as not to mess up and not be left without a crop. I am sharing amazing findings about the features of this melon.
The fact that she is a beauty is obvious! The taste is either wonderful, or none, who has grown how. This is always the case with melons. And the benefit, they say, is great. Very sweet.
- Unlike other melons, Vietnamese melons are resistant to spring frost (That's how melon is!)
- Drought tolerant
- Doesn't mind uneven watering and slight changes in air temperature
- Ties fruits even at + 5 ° С
- Resistant to most diseases and pests (dream!)
- Very productive, small fruits, usually 100-200 g, and there are a lot of them
- In order to have more fruits, it is recommended to sow three-year-old seeds, they give more female flowers.
- From any damage, the fruits rot. Therefore, there is a widespread belief that Vietnamese melons should not be touched. However, people write that flip-flops are damaged less than other melons.
- It is recommended to eat Vietnamese melon on the day of pickup.
I'm thinking of planting it in a cucumber greenhouse. Although I am afraid that there may be problems with pollination, I will have to work with the bee herself.
About growing Vietnamese melon
- Sowing in the ground, or growing seedlings, sowing dates and agricultural technology one to one like cucumbers.
- Each plant will have both male and female flowers.
- The distance between the bushes in the greenhouse is 0.5 - 0.7 m
- The place is the sunniest
- Until the fruit is fully formed, water should be regularly watered with warm water. The plant will tolerate drought, but the quantity and quality of melons will leave much to be desired.
- The fruits will ripen, depending on the variety, in 2-3 months.
- Collect them when they are easily separated from the stalk. This moment is easily identified by the appearance of a chic melon aroma.
- Overripe fruits become cottony and lose sugar content.
- But neatly removed unripe Vietnamese melons are perfectly ripened.
Vietnamese melon bush formation
- Leave 2 - 3 strongest lashes. They will reach a length of 1.5 - 2 m. They can be pinched when a sufficient number of fruits are tied.
- Melons tie upon side shoots, in the axils of the leaves, like cucumbers. Fruit-bearing lateral shoots are usually pinched after 3-4 ovaries in order to accelerate fruit ripening.
