Delight, hope and disappointment

Greetings.

The theme of equipping a home workshop with machine tools and other power tools evokes many different emotions: love, hate, delight, hope, disappointment.

Here you buy a new machine in a workshop full of hope, in anticipation of new opportunities, and then BAM and the second shift... so it's not from herebut bam sometimes it happens: something breaks at the machine, it does not work as expected, that beautiful picture that I drew before buying suddenly crumbles.

I bought the first milling cutter in order to try how popular it would be, so I took the cheapest one. With its help I made one door, the dining table to the kitchen and I realized I needed another: the button is not fixed, it is difficult to hold it, the springs are tight, you cannot put it on the table.

As a result, I converted it into a filler, and in its current form it turned out to be a very popular tool.

The next one was a two-base router, which I bought with high expectations, but from which I also received a number of disappointments.

Fraser Interskol FM-62 \ 1500E, though now it is difficult to find it on sale.

He seems to have everything: reliable collets (8 and 12 mm), smooth start, speed control, speed support under load, the power button is fixed, the second base can be put on the table and there is an elevator. And it's all packed in a big suitcase. The beauty!

But as it turned out, not everything is so rosy. There is a noticeable backlash on the submersible base, the edges of the platform from the cutter are at different distances, although it is round, the discrepancies are up to 1 mm. On a stationary base, the lift cannot be controlled from the top of the table, normal adjustment is only when the locking lever and the handle are released from the bottom.

Although the milling cutter is still good and you can work with it.

At the beginning of the formation of the workshop, I also acquired a Corvette 33 band saw. He also pinned great hopes on it, both with cutting out curved parts and with the dissolution of thick boards into thinner ones.

Out of disappointment - the adjustment of the cutting height broke down rather quickly, I had to figure out how to repair it.

It also proved to be very difficult to tension the saw band as needed for sawing into thin boards, especially in hard rock. After a while, the thread in the tension unit fell off. I converted this unit to a linkage mechanism.

The tension adjustment depends on the suspended load.

But despite these shortcomings, a band saw is needed in the workshop and this machine helped me a lot when making beech chairs. Served well in making my oak kitchen. And actively serves for other tasks.

A little over a year ago I bought a planer-thicknessing machine.

Surface gage and jointer in one.

I didn't have any special expectations from this machine. It performs its functions. It copes well with small volumes.

The only stop of the jointer had to be redone, since the standard stop did not hold the corner.

Another "old man" in the workshop is the Makita 5704R circular saw. For more than 8 years, it has been used both in the manual version and installed in the table.

My circular

Copes with everything. 50 mm saws the board well. Copes not only with pine, sawed it oak, beech, ash.

And this year we managed to replenish the workshop with three more machines: drilling, turning and jigsaw.

Three more machines in my workshop

The drill copes with any tree, from any angle, I have not received disappointments from him.

I only have a lathe for six months. I am learning to sharpen on it and am very pleased with it.

And the jigsaw machine replaced my home-made one, on which I cut a lot for a long time. In the new machine, all my expectations are fully met.

Despite the fact that there were enough disappointments about tools and machines, I am satisfied with them. Because, in my opinion, any tool should be treated as something with which you can do the job and get the desired result and you can't do it any other way.

Who "rules" the person or the piece of iron? If a person, then you can achieve good results with any tool, and if a piece of iron, then the result will be statements that this tool is "G"

Of course, you need to strive to own a good tool, only you still need to remember who is doing the work - a master or a tool.
