Oh, this non-standard layout! Or 6 ideas for arranging an atypical room
You got an apartment (for example, an inheritance) with a room of an atypical shape: in the form of a trapezoid, with an acute angle, a high ceiling, a window to the floor, or maybe with a bay window? It's great, because such a space turns ordinary housing into almost elite. But there are also disadvantages ...
Good afternoon dear friends!
Since such architectural "delights" are extremely difficult to beat in interior design. After all, the usual techniques will not work here! Here you will have to be creative and imaginative in order to choose the right color palette, finishing material... Wisely choose lighting, decor, decide both with furniture and its location. In general, try to make the space not only beautiful, but also cozy.
Therefore, I will not rant for a long time! I propose to go straight to the point and try turn the flaws of the interior into a highlight of your apartment.
1.A non-standard corner of the room. The triangular room is, of course, a rarity, but today it is also found. The main challenge in such a space is to use the narrowest angle wisely. For an empty corner in an atypical room always looks like an eyesore. So, to distract your eyes, you can use a bright piece of furniture (small chair) and 1-2 paintings.
Another way to solve the "narrow question" would be to install a mirror in it. This can be an ordinary medium-sized mirror or a mirror surface on the back of the cabinet. With this technique, you will visually "break" the angle, giving depth to an atypical space.
2.Large windows to the floor. It would seem, what problems can arise in a room with a panoramic window? Well, at least - too much light! It can be dazzling, give glare on the TV screen and increase the temperature in the room too much during the summer season. Therefore, so that you do not have such difficulties, I recommend, for example, to place a TV or computer in the darkest corner, and not to put the sofa facing the window opening. It would be more correct to put it sideways or turn it back to the window.
Place indoor plants with lush greenery near the window, which will not only emphasize the original layout, but also become a bright finishing touch in the entire interior of the room.
3.Bay window. What it is?! It's simple - this is a small part of the room that protrudes beyond the main facade. It is found in both old houses and new buildings. So, if the right approach to its arrangement, then it will be the perfect place to create a relaxing cozy corner. To do this, first, the walls in a room with a bay window are best decorated with light colors: white or light gray. But choose the decor in warmer colors: burgundy, brown or terracotta.
Then you can safely place a small table in it for a leisurely breakfast. Or install a padded seat, as a well-lit bay window is great for reading. You can also arrange a green corner of indoor plants in it. Etc…
4.High ceiling. Many people dream of having high ceilings, because with them even a small room looks visually larger than it really is. But this often overlooks the fact that this only works in a space in which the floor surface is significantly greater than the ceiling height. Otherwise, the room becomes like a "well", which, you see, is also not so hot!
So, if you got a disproportionate room - do not be discouraged. It is possible to balance it, but it is not so difficult. It is enough to choose a large chandelier! It can be a classic version or something modern, consisting of several lamps. The main thing is that the chandelier is in XXL format. And that's it!
5.Bearing element. Is there a column in your apartment in the middle of the living room? Great! Treat this element not as a disadvantage, but as a highlight that does not spoil the appearance of the room, but, on the contrary, gives it an original decorative touch.
Emphasize it by turning it into a central element of the interior: for example, by placing furniture around. Or concentrate the lighting on it by hanging a bright garland, etc.
6.Atypical "borders". Sometimes the architectural "delights" of our builders go even further! As a result, two corners can form inside the room near the protruding part of the wall. Which is quite unusual and may even baffle people! So, do not rush to hide them in any way: on the contrary, use this "artifact" to showcase your photographs, paintings, posters, souvenirs or carved boards.
By the way, this section of the wall can be clearly distinguished with the help of an unusual strong color, which will emphasize the peculiar geometry of the room.
