What to do to make the petunia rise quickly. Why do I use a crush and boiling water. I share my experience
Petunia is sown in different ways. But in order for her to ascend quickly, you need to help her in this. To do this, you can use boiling water.
How I sow petunia
Immediately before sowing, I pour boiling water into the teapot. I take a small container and make drainage holes in it. This must be done without fail, insofar as petunia does not like moisture stagnation.
Then I put the soil mixture into the container (I buy it at a gardening store). The soil should be light, moisture-absorbing, nutritious and loose.
With the help of an ordinary crush, I tamp and level the soil surface.
You can also use peat tablets for this method (only without crushing)
The soil mixture layer should be at least 2 cm. The seeds were purchased in granules (pelleted), there are usually no more than 10 of them in a package.
Then I spill the soil with boiling water from the kettle. The sowing procedure must be done quickly so that the soil does not have time to cool down. I spread the seeds on the hot surface of the soil and cover with a lid or foil.
It is not necessary to cover the seeds of petunia with earth, since light is needed for germination of seedlings. It is so inherent in these seeds by nature.
The seeds will be steamed due to steam, the granules will collapse. Then I wrap the container with a towel and put it on the battery for 30-40 minutes, so that the steaming process goes faster.
Next, I remove the towel, and put the container with the crops in the light at room temperature.
Method advantages
What does the method of sowing petunias with boiling water give? First of all, this method promotes friendly germination of seeds, hot water and soil stimulate the rapid emergence of seedlings.
In addition, boiling water will disinfect the soil, which is a good prevention against various fungal diseases. Blackleg rarely appears on plants when sown in this way.
After all the manipulations with the crops, I sign the container with a marker, where I designate the variety and planting dates.
I really like this option for sowing petunia, because petunia does not get sick, germinates quickly and gives friendly shoots.
