Developed a battery for electric cars that charges in 5 minutes

Representatives of the Israeli startup StoreDot made a statement that they managed to create a full-fledged a functioning prototype of a battery for electric cars with a record high speed charging. So, according to the statements of the engineers, the full charging time from 0% to 100% takes only about five minutes.

Despite all the obvious advantages of electric cars over classic cars with internal combustion engines, they have one drawback that negates everything. And we are talking about the speed of charging the battery.

Scientists around the world are looking for a solution to this problem, developing battery options that use, for example, such a unique material as graphene.

But the Israeli company decided to go the other way. And it was decided not to look for a complete alternative for the existing lithium-ion batteries, but only to deeply modify the existing technology.

The startup engineers decided to experiment with the anode. In the course of numerous experiments, the company's engineers replaced the graphite contained in the anode with metalloidal nanoparticles, and a lot of work was done on the internal architecture of the cell (details of changes unknown).

The lab sample showed a charging speed from 0% to 100% in just five minutes. After that, it was decided to release a pilot batch of cells in the amount of 1000 copies.

The first batch was launched by the Chinese company EVE Energy on its commercial line, which produces conventional lithium-ion batteries. But StoreDot has no plans to stop there. The next step will be to refine the battery and replace the currently used germanium with a material such as silicon.

This replacement will significantly reduce the cost of producing batteries. And by 2025, the company plans to launch a full-fledged battery on the market that can be charged in five minutes and provides a range of 160 km.
