The wholesale price of electricity in Russia has reached a maximum, how will this affect tariffs

Wholesale prices for electricity in 2020 have updated their maximum, despite the record drop in consumption over the past decade.

The main contribution to the price increase was made by non-market markups, the total value of which amounted to an impressive 558 billion rubles. But this is not the limit. So, according to the regulator's calculations, prices can rise even more in 2021. For example, in the European part of the country and in the Urals, the increase may be at the level of 3.8%, and in the Siberian region by a considerable 13.4%.

Why did it happen

The fact that electricity prices have reached their long-term maximum, it became known from the latest review of the Market Council. So the document indicates that the one-part price of the wholesale market in the difficult past year in the European part of Russia and the Urals increased by 3.4%, and thus the price turned out to be at the level of 2.54 thousand rubles. rubles per 1 MW * h, in the Siberian price segment the growth was limited to 0.6% and the price was fixed at the level of 1.78 thous. rubles per 1 MW * h.

It should be noted that the one-rate price is made up of two parameters: the cost of electricity for 24 hours in advance (RSV), as well as from the cost of power (the ability to sell energy into energy network).

At the same time, the cost of these two halves showed diametrically opposite directions: the price of electricity decreased significantly, while the price of power increased significantly.

So the price of RSV decreased in the 1st zone by 6%, and in the 2nd by 3.9%. But at the same time, the cost of capacity increased over the past year in the same 1st zone by 14.3%, and in the 2nd by 7.1%, which, as you understand, is significantly higher than the official inflation level.

So in 2020 the payment for capacity in total turned out to be at the level of 810 billion. rubles, of which 558 billion. rubles are allowances. Such an increase in prices with a significant reduction in demand does not suit industry at all.

But that is not all. So, according to the forecast of the Market Council, in the coming 2021, the one-part wholesale price will again increase by an aggregate of 5.6%. The growth, of course, is significant, but I am sure that many of us are interested in how this growth will affect our wallets?

How will this increase affect bills for light

So, as experts said, such a significant increase in wholesale prices will in no way affect payments for consumed electricity for the population. This is due to the fact that tariffs are fully regulated by the state and the final price is determined by government decisions.

The thing is that the price of the wholesale market is made up of many factors. And as the results of 2020 showed, wholesale electricity prices met the real inflation parameters with a significant margin.

Thus, no additional increase in the tariff due to a significant increase in the wholesale price for the end user is planned.

Well, so far this price increase will not affect the population, but it will affect large industrialists who will are forced to pay more, and this will lead to a decrease in their profits and a slowdown in the pace of recovery from the 2020 crisis of the year.
