Peat seedling pots. What are the pros and cons I found
The time will come very soon to prepare the seedlings. It is important for gardeners to decide in advance how they are going to grow seedlings. There is a wide variety of methods and options.
Peat pots are gaining popularity every year. I have adopted them for a long time. I want to tell you about the pros and cons of this method, I have identified for myself.
But first, I'll tell you what kind of method it is with peat pots. These small containers are sold in the store. They must be filled with nutrient soil. Then several seeds are sown in each of the pots.
Next, the pots are sent to the pallet. When the seedlings grow up, they will need to be planted in the garden right in the pot. In order for the plant to quickly take root in the garden, it needs to be watered more often. This will soften the peat and make it easier for the plant roots to break it down.
Pros of peat seedling pots
· Peat performs the function of additional plant nutrition. After all, the material from which the pots are made is saturated with biologically active substances and humic acids. The root system in such a container is developing very well.
· The pot protects the root system of the plant at first from the invasion of pests.
· Peat has a good ability to absorb excess moisture and breathability.
· Sphagnum peat has antifungal properties. Therefore, the process of decay and multiplication of bacteria is prevented.
· In such a pot, the plant will also be protected from weed seeds. This is a kind of ecological seedling house.
· The wall thickness is ideal for keeping the shape while the plants are in it. And after disembarkation, it does not prevent them from growing.
Cons of peat seedling pots
· The main disadvantage for me is the price of peat pots. At first glance, they seem to be inexpensive. But if you take into account that I plant a lot of seedlings every year, then the amount is pretty decent.
This option is more suitable for those who have a small vegetable garden.
· Seedlings in pots take up a lot of space. And this is also an impermissible luxury if you want to grow a large number of seedling bushes and do not have a spacious room for these purposes.
· Recently, shops have started selling low quality peat pots. Therefore, there is a danger of acquiring a fake. In particular, I once noticed that instead of peat pots they tried to sell cardboard pots.
