Why I don't believe the electronic blood pressure monitor
Admit it honestly: did any of you have such troubles as incorrect readings of the tonometer? Personally, I had to face this problem more than once. The first time I bought such a pressure measuring device was just for prophylaxis. Age, you know, is already making itself felt, and therefore it does not hurt to control your blood pressure. Of course, I bought a tonometer not an ordinary mechanical one, but an electronic one, because I was firmly convinced that it would be more accurate.
But that was not the case: given my normal state of health (I just decided to check the operation of this device), the tonometer gave me such numbers that at least call an ambulance. At first, of course, I was scared: what if I really have such high blood pressure, but I just don't feel it? But then it turned out that my electronic blood pressure monitor was just lying. I am telling you how I "exposed" him.
Before measuring the pressure with my tonometer, I took it from my local doctor in the clinic. I have no reason not to trust the hospital tonometer, because all medical devices in government agencies are regularly checked for accuracy. In general, an error in the operation of a hospital tonometer is an extremely rare phenomenon.
Returning home, I immediately again measured my blood pressure, but with my electronic tonometer and compared its readings with the "hospital" ones. Unfortunately, they were significantly different. My device once again "diagnosed" my hypertension.
When I realized that my tonometer was lying, I decided to carefully study the instructions attached to it again and found the following entry: "an error of up to 15% is allowed." This, I tell you, is a lot for pressure. Such a deviation in one direction or the other can cause improper treatment and subsequent deterioration of the general condition.
Therefore, if you need to get accurate blood pressure readings, go to your doctor. Well, if it is not possible to constantly run to the clinic, get a regular mechanical tonometer.
You need to measure the pressure in a sitting position, the hand should lie freely on the table (preferably at the level of the heart). To obtain accurate readings, it is advisable to measure the pressure several times with an interval of 3 to 5 minutes.
Before measuring blood pressure, it is recommended to limit physical activity, as well as refuse to use invigorating drinks - strong tea, coffee, alcohol and energy cocktails.
I do not want to say that absolutely all electronic blood pressure monitors are lying. Surely there are high-quality devices that serve for a long time and give out accurate numbers. I was just unlucky, and I shared my opinion.
Do you trust electronic blood pressure monitors?
