I was looking for blackout curtains with full shading: what is sold instead of them and why I liked it anyway

I don't know how curtains are chosen in the north of Russia, but in the Kuban the main thing is a protective factor. Here the sun beats down mercilessly. Therefore, I was delighted to learn about blackout technology. And I bought curtains for myself.

What it is

Blackout curtains do not let light through at all. They are created from a special material consisting of several (usually three) layers. A decorative outer layer, reflective lining and black threads on the inside that inhibit light output. Here, in the photo of a cut of fabric, they can be seen.

However, what is claimed by sellers as a blackout is in fact often a dimout. These are curtains that also darken, but do not transmit only 80-85% of the rays. I bought them exactly without understanding the subject. Focused primarily on color and texture.

How do they look

Purple, dark, solid colors. In my opinion, they look decent and do not irritate the eyes. But the color can be any, even white.

The texture is really pleasant - a large matting weaving. The material is 100% polyester, and this is quite noticeable, the curtains shine a little (in reality, less than in the photo). Lovers of natural fabrics will repel, but it suits me.

The curtains are heavy. The reverse side is smooth, similar to satin. In the comments to the product in the online store, they wrote that the wrong side clings to the batteries, there are tightenings. I didn't have that, the fabric is strong.

How do they work

Now to the main thing: do they really block the light? Yes! Exactly to the extent that the seller promised: about 80%.

At first, the darkness seemed to me even unnecessary. In the morning there is no feeling that the day has already come. In cloudy weather, it is almost completely dark. Only after a while I got used to it and appreciated the benefits.

In my opinion, the degree of shading of the dimout is sufficient for household purposes: close the TV screen from the sun, put the child to sleep during the day, hide from the lantern under the window. The price of the question in my case is 4.5 thousand rubles. rub. for two curtains. Would you prefer blackout and total darkness?
