Is it possible to sheathe a house with slate? Facade is cheaper than siding, better than DSP

If we talk about slate, then many people imagine the view of the roof on the house. It turns out that slate has a wide range of applications. From flat slate, you can build a fence, sheathe a barn, build a compost pit, formwork for the foundation, fence garden paths, beds, etc.

Slate - non-flammable material, strong enough, does not conduct electr. current, does not rot, does not rust. It will not be spoiled by insects and rodents. Disadvantages: Sheets of material can split from drops. Installation is partly difficult due to the weight of the sheets.

Many people talk about slate harm. Therefore, when cutting sheets, it is worth protecting your eyes and breathing from microspokic asbestos fibers. After cutting the material, it is recommended to cover the cuts with acrylic paint.

Flat slate designations: LP-P (pressed), LP-NP (unpressed). The first type of slate is more durable, compressive and bend tight. Pressed well tolerates low temperatures (up to 55 cycles of thawing and freezing).

Flat slate is considered better than DSP (in many physical and mechanical indicators). Slate, unlike DSP and LSU, serves as a facade material.

Is it possible to sheathe the house with slate (process)

It is quite possible that many people choose slate for the facade. The material is attached to the frame. A wooden lathing or metal profile will do. The bars are fastened in increments depending on the size of the slate. Thermal insulation (ecowool, mineral wool, etc.) can be added between the bars.

The material is attached to the frame with self-tapping screws, galvanized nails or nails with a non-corrosive head. Special cleats can be used. For fasteners, make holes in advance and preferably a slightly larger diameter (by 1 mm. more). Washers must be placed under the cap. They can be made of rubber or roofing material.

Self-tapping screws for metal with a press washer are best suited. With them, you can not even make holes in the slate in advance. Leave a gap of 3 mm between the sheets during operation.

The finish of the slate can be different. You can paint the material with acrylic-based paints. This will protect it from the appearance of moss, lichens, etc.

Another option: liquid rubber. After application, a dense, durable and elastic film is created. Before painting, be sure to prime the slate. Seal the joints of the material with false beams (decorative elements).

To save money, you can buy used sheets of flat slate. And seal the holes from nails, chips with a sealant.
