Winter is over, and we are preparing for spring - making real birdhouses from boards
Looking at the current boys who learn to sew, cook and cross-stitch at school in labor lessons, I really feel sorry for them.
I still managed to catch the time when there was a real carpentry workshop at school, and in labor lessons we made cutting boards, feeders and birdhouses. True, after us this was no longer.
And so, we moved to a country house. This spring, I saw starlings in a birdhouse nearby on one of the plots. They sang so much in the morning that I promised myself to make sure to make at least two birdhouses for my site. After all, if they return safe and sound with their children after the flight, then everyone will need housing.
Since the skills from school were pretty much forgotten, I downloaded a diagram from the Internet and began to do everything strictly in size. I needed a jigsaw, a screwdriver with crowns for cutting holes of different diameters, a hacksaw, screws, nails, a square.
I have prepared the boards since summer so that they dry well. They stood in a dry closet.
Having marked out the blanks on the boards, I started making the first birdhouse after a 30-year break. First, I marked the front wall, where there will be a hole in the entrance to the birdhouse - the entrance.
Having cut it out using a crown of the appropriate size, I made a hole under the bridge so that the starlings could comfortably sit on it and sing a lot.
After that I sawed all the walls and the roof. And he proceeded to collect the entire structure. To be honest, everything did not turn out as planned at once. But soon the first bird house was ready.
Of course, the birdhouse needs to be sanded and a waterproof covering should be made on the roof. But, since it was impossible to work in the workshop because of the frost, I did everything in the kitchen. Of course, I will sand and polish outside the house, as this work is dusty.
The wife offers to paint the birdhouses later, but I disagree. It seems to me that a natural hut will be much nicer for birds than one that smells of paint.
Here is such an interesting job for me. I plan to make a couple more houses as a gift to my relatives. Nobody has refused a handmade birdhouse yet!
