A stunning "tool" that can change your apartment beyond recognition! 4 working ideas
Color is exactly the design tool that can solve even the most complex architectural puzzles. Whether it is to "raise" a low ceiling or "push" walls in a narrow room. I understand that this is all an illusion! No, of course, the low ceiling will not "float", and the walls will remain in place. However, color is quite capable of changing perception, mood, volume of space.
Good afternoon dear friends!
Have you ever noticed that every space has its own character - just like a person. This is especially evident in the example of typical apartments. It seems to me that it is impossible to find two identical people, so it is impossible to find two identical spaces / apartments / rooms. And the reason is not only in the energy of space, subject filling, but also to a greater extent our inner perception depends on the chosen color scheme.
And here's a good example for you - you just have to repaint the walls in the "grandmother's apartment", and the mood of the space will immediately change, even if all the furniture remains in its place! In addition, color is also the cheapest tool when compared to "global" alterations, whether it be any architectural changes or a change in object filling (furniture). However, as with any tool, you need to work with color carefully, and knowledge in this area will definitely not be superfluous. I propose to discuss several important rules today.
1. Warm colors for a small bedroom. 100%, or 99.9% of readers have definitely heard the rule: “No darkcolors and shades for small spaces ”. This is probably why it is customary to paint traditionally small spaces in light shades, but a monochrome light color is not always able to create a cozy space. And the bedroom is the space where it is most important to feel protected, as if in a cocoon. Therefore, it is more correct to give preference to warm colors and shades when choosing the color palette of the bedroom interior. And no rules, just personal preference! After all, you are the most important critic of your space! It is for you to fall asleep and wake up there!
For example, warm shades of red, chocolate or beige are great for creating a cozy cocoon. But if deviating from traditions and breaking stereotypes is too difficult a step, then dilute the interior of the bedroom with textiles or individual decorative elements.
2. Ceiling color. The first sensations when entering an apartment / room are the most "honest", we intuitively catch the mood of the space and only seconds later we begin to study it. That is why it is important to create an atmosphere of proportionally harmonious space in order to avoid “pressing” or “compressed” space or, conversely, the feeling of a “well”. And here, in addition to the architectural features of the space (size and height of ceilings), color plays a decisive role.
The most effective way to "raise" a low ceiling is to add contrasting vertical stripes. However, not every interior is able to "withstand" such a technique. There is also a solution: for example, paint the walls in a contrasting, bright color, and leave the ceiling perfectly white. In the case of a ceiling that is too high, the main goal is to veil the excess volume in order to create a cozy and warm atmosphere. Here a technique can come to the rescue, the opposite from the point of view of verticalization of space, namely, horizontal stripes. This technique broadens the perspective, thereby distracting attention from the unnecessarily high ceiling. The effect of horizontal stripes will be easily supported by furniture placed along the entire length of the space. In addition, dark colors and shades will perfectly cope with the task of "grounding" the ceiling.
3. Illusion of deception. Few of us can boast of large and / or geometrically correct spaces. And more often you have to work with small and / or architecturally disproportionate ones. And this is doubly interesting. Didn't you dream of being wizards as a child?! I, to be honest, very much! Therefore, I really love the technique of "pushing" the walls, changing the feeling and geometry of the room.
To achieve the desired result, it should be remembered that cold colors (purple, green, blue) seem to be repulsive, thereby creating a feeling spaces, while warm colors (chocolate, beige), on the contrary, enhance the feeling of a cocoon, they seem to envelop, taking away from space volume.
In addition to playing with warm and cold colors, there is an interesting technique of “flowing” spaces. This is when the color of the interior is selected in such a way as to unite the entire space into one. Thus, the edges of the rooms are erased, the interior seems to flow from one room to another. Such a technique can divert attention from the architectural imperfections of the premises. In addition, there will be no feeling of constriction, since all the rooms in the house will in fact become one big continuation of each other.
Another trick is to create a bright point to distract attention. And such a bright point can be anything: a bright baseboard, an accent wall, a bright door, or a dark floor. The choice is yours.
4. Color palette for structural elements. When creating the mood of the space, you should not forget about the important architectural and structural elements of the premises. By filling such elements with contrasting colors, we add a mood, the so-called perspective. And behind these complex words is a simple technique of filling niches with color, highlighting moldings and other elements.
By introducing color (especially in monochrome interiors), we achieve the effect of depth, change the relief of space, and break the static. Such a technique will add modernity to a classic interior, help to bring live notes and combine an ultra-modern chest of drawers and a classic sofa in one space.
