When you want to build your own house, but money is not enough, you have to choose between not the best options. A friend of a member of our portal had a choice - cheap and good land with communications near the cemetery or an ordinary site in a developed area. He chose the first, but now he regrets it.

Why a cemetery

For many years my friend lived in a rented one-room apartment and saved money for a house - this was his cherished dream. And so, when, in his opinion, there were enough funds to build a house within the city, he began to search for a site.

Plots of 6-10 acres in our city at that time cost:

  • 250-500 thousand rubles - frankly bad, located on the outskirts, required investments in earthworks and communications;
  • from 800 to 1.5 million rubles - good plots with the presence of communications, did not require large investments;
  • from 1.5 million rubles and more - land plots in elite areas.

He was inclined to buy a plot for 1 million rubles, and build a house for the remaining 2 million. Everything went according to plan, but my friend came across cheap and good land. The site was located on a dry high place seventy meters from an asphalt road. Communications are at hand, there are shops nearby, 15 minutes drive to the city center. The cost of 8 acres in this place was 580 thousand rubles.

But there was also a catch: the site was right on the road leading to the central gate of the cemetery. The cemetery functioned, which means that people were buried there. It was rumored that it would soon be closed as it was overcrowded. And then the funeral processions will automatically stop walking down the street - you only need to wait five years.

This site was not alone: the entire area located between the cemetery and the road was being sold. By the way, it was quickly sold out and my friend also became the happy owner of land in this not very pleasant place. The main problem was that the terrain is steppe - there is no forest or trees that would block the view of the cemetery landscape.

From 11 to 14 o'clock in the family curfew

Three years later, the construction was completed and the happy newcomer moved into a brand new house - his dream came true. By that time, the wife had already given birth to the first and was pregnant with the second. Everything went well for them, but there are small nuances of living near the cemetery.

The first is one or even three funeral processions a day. When there were no houses in these places, people developed a habit of unloading the coffin with the deceased after just moving away from the asphalt road and carrying it for the remaining 100–150 meters in their arms. The houses were built, but the habit remained. And sometimes they don't just quietly carry the deceased, but with music, crying, lamentations. In general, everything is like a regular funeral.

And then, once, while visiting my friend, I saw it with my own eyes. We were sitting in the courtyard under a canopy. It was towards noon. At this time, his wife entered the courtyard from the street and closed the gate. He suggested to me: "Let's go into the house, otherwise they will bring it in now ..."

We went into the house, and I went up to the second floor to see what they were avoiding so much. Approaching the window, I felt a little creepy: on the left, almost to the horizon stretches a cemetery - crosses, wreaths, monuments; in front of the house is the road along which the funeral procession stretched. The coffins, as it should be, are carried open and from the windows of the second floor one can even see the face of the deceased.

Life here is like depression, loaded from the outside: every day something reminds of the frailty of life. “This is the only inconvenience of living here. We have a curfew in our family from 11 to 14 o'clock - we go into the house, and we curtain the windows of the second floor, ”a friend told me then.

The cemetery was not closed, and the children sometimes play funerals

Another four years passed. The cemetery was not only not closed, but expanded by several hundred hectares so that it could continue to work. Fortunately, it is located in the steppe and there is plenty of space here.

My friend tolerates all these species, but he is already seriously thinking about moving. “Children sometimes play at funerals, which is not normal. In short, we get out of here, while everyone's psyche is intact. I am already looking for a plot, I will sell this house ”- this was his final decision. And his house has been on sale for a year already... there are no buyers yet.
