Annual "For the lazy" with bright colors. He does not care about missed watering, and top dressing
And again a fiery salute, comrades, restless flower growers! Today on the agenda is a beautiful and unprecedented in its unpretentiousness annual flower.
Bright colors - no hassle of care! Let's find out what kind of plant it is, and how to get maximum efficiency with minimum labor costs. I mean, a beautiful flower bed, but without endless dancing with a watering can and fiddling with fertilizers.
Nice to meet you
Imagine a plant that inherited from its ancestor - literally a weed - unpretentiousness. It has all the habits of a succulent, which eliminates the need for regular watering and provides drought resistance. Which blooms without interruption from June to... until the frost kills, and even forms a colorful carpet.
An alluring prospect? Feel free to buy a bag of seeds decorative (large-flowered) purslane. I strongly advise you to take a mixture of colors, because this way the decorative carpet looks even more elegant! Terry hybrids are also on sale, but... they are still a little more demanding.
Indisputable advantages of decorative purslane in applied gardening:
- The plant stores moisture in fleshy leaves. The heat has come - great, it wastes it. And it does not wither from head to toe if the sluggish owner has forgotten about watering. I highly recommend it for summer residents who live on the site in short order!
- Purslane perfectly tolerates direct sunlight. Will grow and bloom in the shade. True, the carpet will turn out to be loose, and the flowers will not be so frequent.
- Purslane grows well in poor soils. More precisely, on any soil. Rich in humus - delicious. Poor, stony, sandy, clayey - someone who, and our hero will definitely not show off and will do what he must: he will begin to bloom for a long time and colorfully.
- The previous point explains why purslane does not need fertilizer. But, if, feeding other flowers, a fellow gardener splashes something on the purslane, he will be immensely grateful and will bloom with renewed vigor. But terry hybrids are still better to feed a couple of times per season - with a complex mineral.
- It is not at all necessary to grow seedlings. I threw the purslane seeds right into the open ground - and you will have to wait quite a bit. An unpretentious plant is distinguished not only by its trouble-free, but also by its rapid growth.
It becomes clear: an unpretentious flower will plug all our petunias, vervains and alyssums in the belt, comrades!
How to grow a purslane
In terms of growing, purslane is exactly as unpretentious as adult plants. There are 2 ways:
- at the end of March-in April, sow seeds for seedlings so that the bright carpet spreads out at the very beginning of summer.
- in May (in the south - in April), sow directly into open ground. But you have to wait for July to see the flowers.
I use the second option to sow empty areas in the country with beautiful and unpretentious flowers.
Did you like the purslane and was the article helpful? Put "Thumbs up" in response, comrade!
