How to quickly and efficiently fill the seams on a limestone walkway: construction trick
A limestone path is one of the best solutions for landscaping. Natural stone is strong, beautiful, durable. But there is also one obvious drawback of such a coating - large and often uneven seams, which cause some discomfort. How and how to quickly fill these seams - read on.
Traditional methods of grouting
Usually, the joints between flagstones are rubbed in the same way as on a path made of paving slabs or paving stones. It happens as follows: a dry sand-cement mixture is placed in the seams and filled with water.
For large joints, such as a flagstone walkway, a 1: 3 mix of cement and granite screening can be used. Then, using a brush, the dry mixture is rubbed into the seams and also filled with water.
Some people prefer to seal the joints with masonry mortar. But this is a long and tedious process. We will tell you how to fill the joints between natural chipped stone tiles faster and better.
Alternative way
Seams can be filled with cement-sand mortar. To do this, you need to mix one part of cement with three parts of sand and dilute it all with water to a liquid consistency. The solution must be very pliable. To improve this property, you can add a little dishwashing detergent - two or three drops per bucket of solution are enough.
Next, using a regular watering can, an old teapot or a bucket with a spout, you need to carefully fill in the seams between the flagstones. Such work is best done in the evening or in cloudy weather. This is necessary so that the seams do not dry out, but gain strength (concrete doesn't dry - it ripens!). The path can be covered with cellophane film for several days, and then watered with water for a week.
This method is less labor intensive, quality and relatively high speed of work. Another advantage of pouring joints: with a large volume, you can divide the work into stages and carry it out at different times.
