Glass insulation, film, or nothing? As I did with the waterproofing, when insulating my floor with EPPS.
Again, questions began, the exact answer to which is nowhere to be found. Well, okay, I will act according to the situation.
Greetings friends. Finally, there will be something new in my construction history ..
And then all this long process of warming the roof tired me in order (more morally), and stretched out for a long time.
And here again the insulation... But something else.
Now let's go down "from heaven to earth", ie from the roof to the floor, and we will deal with its thermal insulation.
The base of my house is a concrete slab with "downward" stiffeners. But there is no insulation from below, so we will do it from the inside. For this I decided to use 100 mm EPS.
Although in my recent article, I wrote that I doubt whether the costs of this work will be commensurate with the benefits that this insulation will bring? (For anyone interested, see on my channel). So this is also an experiment, with the hope for the best... 🤗
And the work has not really begun yet, but difficulties and misunderstandings have appeared.
Waterproofing! It seems to me that at all stages of my construction I came across this term. Or rather, with the choice of all kinds of execution options or with the question "should it be done at all or not?" As always, drowning in the sea of this information, I went to practice.
First, glass-insulated.
I have already used it in the manufacture of the blind area, and here I thought it would also work.
But after rolling several rolls on my floor, I saw one problem.
✅ It is unrealistic to make a snug fit. The rolled fabric went in small bumps, and in order for everything to fit snugly to the concrete, it was necessary to do 100% fusion. And with my miracle burner, it's unrealistic.
It turns out that the sheets of EPS will not normally fall on such a surface, and will dance on these "waves".
So I decided to try a simpler waterproofing option - a regular film.
And it seemed like a good option, but there was another significant nuance.
The surface of the foundation slab was uneven, such as pits and sagging. And even if during installation I do not tear this film myself, then when pressed with a heater, it can still be damaged. And then what is the point in it?
Oooo for sure! In general, does it make sense in waterproofing in my case?
I understand to lay waterproofing between the foundation and the aerated concrete wall (which can perfectly absorb moisture), as I have done.
But the point is to insulate the EPS, when it is itself waterproof, and in fact is not only a heater, but also a barrier to moisture?
✔ So I decided not to suffer and lay the material directly on the concrete.
But the issue of waterproofing has not yet been completely closed.
✅ I look forward to your advice. Maybe you should still lay something waterproof over EPS, before the screed is poured? Write in the comments ...
