How to reliably attach a hammer, an ax without a wedge (who are tired of flying hammers)
It would seem a simple task - to put a hammer on the handle. But for some reason, many have problems. Now they sell such hammers with a metal handle or their synthetic materials. You do not need to insert such tools.
But almost everyone uses wooden-handled hammers. The plus is that wood is a light material, and this is the main plus when working.
Traditionally, wooden or metal wedges are used to strengthen the head on the handle of a hammer, ax, or sledgehammer.
But the hammer or ax often slips off the handle anyway. Wedges don't help much.
Causes: The wooden handle is dry or the hammer is not properly seated.
I found a "miracle" hammer with a wedge and screws in the barn from the previous owners:
What can I do to prevent the hammer from jumping off the handle?
Someone advises to lower the hammer in water (for 30 minutes) before work. The wooden handle will swell and the hammer will not fly off. However, it is often not recommended to do this (the tree structure deteriorates). The handle will then have to be changed.
There are ring or herringbone wedges on sale. 3 pieces cost about 100 rubles. But they are not so reliable either.
There is an easier and more reliable way. And no wedges are needed
We use the old rubber from the bike camera. Still need lithol or another lubricant.
Prepare the handle. Grind the upper part, if necessary, so that it fits into the hole of the hammer.
Cut off a rectangular piece from the rubber.
It should wrap around the top of the hammer handle, but with a slight gap.
We lubricate the inner part of the striker with lithol to facilitate the process of the nozzle. Put the hammer head on the handle with rubber.
Cut off excess rubber at the top and bottom.
Strong, reliable and for a long time!
