I don't understand who came up with the idea of ​​making ventilation from sewer pipes? I explain why I went the other way.

As a self-builder, I am always attracted by any non-standard solutions during construction. But some of them are not clear to me at all.

Friends, hello everyone! The construction of my house is moving forward, and at the same time I need to delve into new construction processes.

Now the next step is the arrangement of my small basement, and first of all, I decided to make normal ventilation for it.

Therefore, this work should not cause any special labor costs. Most of all, I was asked questions about the various options for execution, which I came across on the Internet.

Especially very common ventilation from sewer pipes.

At first, when I saw this, I became interested. "It's probably cheap, simple and reliable." - I thought, otherwise why are there so many examples of this option.

But when compared with standard ventilation ducts, I was surprised.

✔ I started with the price. The usual self-builder approach 😁.

This is how much ordinary gray pipes, 110 mm in diameter, cost.

And here is the price for a ventilation pipe 100 mm.

The price difference is obvious. Let the ventilation pipes be thinner (probably for this and cheaper), but here it does not matter.

✔ Versatility and compatibility.

• Ventilation pipes come in different sizes and shapes, not only round but also rectangular (flat), which will save space if needed.
• At the same time, there are various adapters from one form to another.
• And compatibility with forced ventilation systems (fans).

And the sewer pipes... Here you will have to be content with one or two sizes. And to put the fan on, you have to wrap it up with tape ...

✔ Fire safety.

Not many people think about this at all, although the ventilation system is one of the main reasons for the spread of fire from room to room.

• And if the ventilation pipes do not support combustion.
• Then the sewer pipes do it perfectly.

Even these three points are enough for me.

And I believe that the only reason why you can make ventilation in a house from sewer pipes is if you have a dozen of them lying around, and there is nowhere to go... And then I would have thought.
