This is my habitual greeting on my home channel "Energy of repair"but today I welcome you here. My name is Irina, I went through a renovation in a small one-room apartment and just "turned" on the topic of repair and design.
Today I will share with you the solutions that I consider to be the best for small apartments!
Solution # 1: Embed, Hide and Hang
This is the best thing you can do for your apartment! We hide all communications. This ennobles the appearance of the room, makes the room much more aesthetically pleasing. We hid the ventilation with a drywall box, and hid the gas pipes and the boiler in a large cabinet.
What can be hung - we hang. And what can be embedded - we embed! The toilet, cabinet, TV, built-in furniture and other interior items will no longer interfere with cleaning and visually expand the space.
For small apartments like ours, this is just the perfect solution.Solution # 2: large format
We have 60x60 porcelain stoneware on the floor in the hallway, bathroom and kitchen. On the walls of the bathroom there are tiles in the 30x60 format. On the apron there is also large format porcelain stoneware 30 * 90. We really like such solutions.
- First, a large format visually expands the space.
- Secondly, the fewer seams, the less cleaning.
Solution # 3: expand your bathroom storage area
I often see modern bathroom designs where storage space is kept to a minimum. And, if on a project such a room looks wonderful, then in real life it is not!
Bottles, tubes, many multi-colored jars dot the sides of the bathroom, the surface of the washing machine, the sink! They fall, interfere with us and create the so-called visual noise. And now a beautiful room does not look the way we originally wanted.
For these purposes, we used all the free space of our standard 4-meter bathroom and freed ourselves from jars on all surfaces.
The storage problem in our room is solved by a large cabinet above the installation and drawers under the sink. There is a lot of free space left above the box that hides the installation and we used it wisely. In addition, quite by chance we came across facades, ideally matching the color of the tiles. Some do not even notice that we have a closet, it seems that it is a tile.
We left a space under the drawers, and 2 organizers from FixPrice fit perfectly there. We store linen in them.
Solution # 4: Take a good look at your lifestyle
I believe that a one-room apartment is not a place for meetings and friendly receptions. It is rather a transit point for a young family without children, or with one small child. And it's better to meet in a cafe.
Therefore, before making repairs and buying furniture, you should think about several questions:
- How often do you have guests?
- Do they spend the night with you?
- How many things do you have and how do you feel about them?
- How accurate are you?
The answers to these questions helped us:
- Improve sleep quality. We put a bed instead of a sofa, since, in principle, we do not really need it. Is it worth sleeping on an uncomfortable sofa for the sake of one meeting of guests once a year? We decided not.
- We don't have a lot of things in our house, and I don't store anything unnecessary. Only what we actually use. Why clutter up your space? For this reason, we made one large wardrobe-closet and saved the hallway from a pile of wardrobes.
- Our neatness and ability to clean up after ourselves allowed us not to make these ugly plastic corners in the bathroom and in the kitchen, at the junction of tiles and surfaces. We just went through the seams with silicone sealant and now we regularly wipe these places from moisture.

Solution # 5: Wardrobe
We have a small niche in our apartment. It was immediately decided to make a wardrobe there. But we doubted for a long time whether to make there an ordinary cabinet 60 cm deep, or to make something like a wardrobe-screen for the entire depth of the niche. And in the end, they made the second option. And they did not regret it!
This gives us a lot more storage space. Without this dressing room, it would be necessary to make a wardrobe in the hallway and an additional chest of drawers. Therefore, if you have the opportunity to make a dressing room in the apartment, of course, it is better to do it.
