Tips for the gardener: the advantages and disadvantages of growing seedlings of peppers, tomatoes without picking. What a newbie might face
Gardeners and summer residents grow seedlings of peppers (eggplants), tomatoes with and without a pick. Many of them find an advantage in the latter. Beginners may encounter some problems when growing seedlings without picking.
Let's consider the pros and cons of this method.
Advantages and disadvantages of the no-pick method
There are few advantages to this method. But they are. Seeds are sown immediately in volumetric containers, sprouts germinate and develop in them until they are planted in open ground, bypassing the stage of transplanting from one cup to another (more voluminous), for example.
In this case, the plant will not experience stress (as happens during transplantation), it will adapt to new growing conditions within a few weeks.
There are plenty of disadvantages of the pick-free method. I encountered them when I was still a beginner in growing seedlings.
The fact is that when sowing vegetable seeds in each cup, no one guarantees that all of them will sprout, because it depends on the quality of the seed. Most of the containers may be empty after sowing.
Also, plants that grow individually will need more moisture than when grown in one pot or container.
Without picking, the seedlings are most often stretched out, and there is no way to deepen the cotyledon leaves, as is done when transplanting into another glass.
The opinion of summer residents and gardeners
The opinions of gardeners about growing seedlings with or without a dive often diverge. This can be seen from the comments on various social networks.
Some believe that with a small number of seedlings (15-20 pieces), it is enough to sow seeds in separate containers (by seed), without adding soil to them. As the plants grow, add soil to the cups. In this case, time is not wasted on the survival rate of seedlings, as in a pick.
If the seeds are sown densely, then in any case you will have to dive.
Many gardeners notice that when picking seedlings of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, young plants develop better, become powerful and stocky. When diving, the root is pinched, which gives an impetus to the development of the root system in the future, it becomes fibrous, as lateral roots grow in the ground.
Of course, there are additional troubles when transplanting seedlings, but in this case the plants turn out to be stronger. Therefore, I chose plant picking.
Everyone chooses the method of growing seedlings himself: who is more comfortable.
