Homemade cheap waterproof coating for any materials (metal, wood, plastic, fabric, brick, glass, etc.)
Moisture-proof coating - a film on the surface that protects against climatic conditions, moisture, mechanical stress, temperature fluctuations. There are various compounds in stores: acrylic, polyurethane, silicone.
Today I will show you how to make yourself a durable, waterproof impregnation from a solvent and another equally well-known component.
This solution is suitable for any surface.
You can process:
- brick,
- dry wood,
- cloth gloves,
- shovels,
- snow blower pipe,
- shoes, etc.
In tourism, this composition is used when processing tents. You can even process the bottom of the car. But the body of the car with care. Must use neutral silicone and exactly White Spirit.
At the dacha, I process pants and a jacket in this way. Become waterproof. I also use this composition to make patches for plastic pipes. I glue the masking tape and process it with a solution.
It turns out to be a cheap and simple product for all surfaces. The coating is resistant to UV rays, retains its properties at temperatures up to 140 gr. I'll tell you right away that you need to work outdoors or use a respirator.
The water-repellent coating is made like a store-bought silicone grease. Those who use often know how expensive it is. There is an opportunity to make it cheaper and better.
Let's take a silicone sealant. He stayed with me after the repair. You will also need a solvent. Silicone is well diluted with various solvents: acetone, white spirit, solvent 646, etc.
Better to use White Spirit. He's more neutral. True, it smells strong, but it spares the processed materials. Even for a car body, it can be used as an anti-rain.
Instead of caustic solvents, you can try using gasoline. But it needs to be tested, I haven't tried it yet.
Squeeze silicone into a plastic bottle.
Next, pour in the solvent and, twisting the cap on the bottle, shake the solution.
Proportions as they say "by eye". The main thing is to ensure that the solution turns out like a liquid jelly.
Then pour into a separate container and apply to the surface with a brush / roller.
