The first feeding Khost in the spring is the most important. I tell you how to do everything right

Hosta is a plant that is quite common in our yards. It is believed to be unpretentious. But on rich soil, when the hosta is also properly fed, it grows much better, and the foliage will be brighter and more luxuriant.

The first feeding is most important. Like any plant, it is advisable to feed the host immediately after planting. After all, then the plant will have more strength in order to quickly take root and start growing. Spring feeding will allow the host to come out of hibernation and start active growth.

I prefer to start fertilizing in early spring. At this time, sap flow in the tissues of the plant already begins, so it is not necessary to wait until the leaves appear.

The appearance of the first young shoots of the hosta is a signal that it is time to apply fertilizers. This period usually falls at the end of March - beginning of April.

As a spring fertilizer, you can use organic matter. I usually use mullein infusion. Before feeding the hosta, dilute the mullein infusion with water in a ratio of 1 to 10.

If you do not want to prepare the fertilizer yourself, you can purchase a complex fertilizer in the store. There will be the correct ratio of all the elements most necessary for the hosts. These include phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen.

I would like to warn you against too frequent feeding. Yes, the first spring feeding is very important for the host, but you shouldn't do it too often. Even a lack of nutrients is not as bad for hosts as an excess of them. Be careful not to overfeed your host.

If you do not add top dressing in the spring, then then the hosts may show signs of a lack of some elements. And this will affect the appearance of the plant.

· If there is little nitrogen in the soil, then the bushes grow slowly, the veins on the leaves become light, shoots and leaves grow weak and lifeless.

· If there is not enough potassium, then spots will appear on the leaves, the leaves themselves will first begin to curl, and then fall off.

· With a lack of calcium, you will notice that the leaves will turn blue or become dark.

· Lack of phosphorus inhibits the growth of the bush, the leaves darken in this case, and the tops of the shoots become lethargic.

Important! Do not use ammonium nitrate, fresh manure, chicken droppings, urea for feeding hosts. These substances can provoke too rapid growth or burn the plant.
