Paradoxical, but true: no concrete blind area is required around. Let's look at the manual for SNiP 2.02.01-83 "Manual for the design of the foundations of buildings and structures." We are interested in point 3.182 .:

Waterproof blind areas should be provided around each building. For buildings and structures erected on sites with type II soil conditions in terms of subsidence, the width of the blind area should be at least 2 m and overlap the sinuses.

But not a word about the fact that the blind area should be made of concrete is not here! This is the key idea of ​​the article!

Who even said that concrete is the best waterproof material? Forgot about the capillary suction of moisture? It is much more correct and cheaper to excavate the soil near the basement, replace the soil clay (at least 15 cm thick according to the Manual), cover with foil on top, bring the soil and sow the lawn.

At the same time, the film in the "pie" above is already my paranoia, an excess, which I can do without. This is for a bore customer like me.

A blind area made of clay and lawn grass looks much more beautiful, it costs much cheaper than concrete, it is exactly the same you can walk in the summer, and the basement (subfloor) will be warmer: the resistance to heat transfer of clay is better than that of concrete.

In Europe, there are a lot of suburban housing, which is being built without the blind area we are used to. The soil is simply removed, a planter is put in, it is sprinkled with earth with grass seeds. And everything stands on heaving grounds, in the rainy regions of England, along the Rhine in Germany - everywhere.
