How to store electrodes so that they do not get damp?

Even last fall, I carried out small welding work on my site and I have almost a whole pack of electrodes left, which I left in the workshop and safely forgot about it. Five months later, I needed to weld one piece, but that was not the case. I have an unheated workshop and it is not surprising that due to the temperature drop and high humidity, the electrodes lost their quality and became damp.

What to do? The work needs to be done, so I decided to go to my neighbor for the electrodes. Petrovich is a great guy and always helps me out. We went to his garage, and he gave me a dozen electrodes. Then, smiling, Petrovich said: "A so that the electrodes are stored for a long time and not damp, make yourself such a homemade tube! ". For storing electrodes my neighbor used a regular 50mm sewer pipe. I really liked this idea and now I will share it with you.

We need a piece of pipe 35 cm long. We measure this value with a tape measure and put a mark.

Then, carefully cut the pipe with a grinder and clean all the burrs with sandpaper.

We cut a plastic pipe with a grinder

Then we take two plugs (the same diameter as the plastic pipe).

Plastic plugs

Drill a hole in one of the plugs, approximately in the center.

Now we take a thumbscrew or a regular bolt, suitable for the diameter of the hole, and insert it into the plug.

We insert a wing bolt into the plug

From the inside of the plug, we screw the nut onto the wing bolt and tighten it well (you can do without this, but it will be more convenient to pull the plug out of the pipe).

Now we take the foam rubber and with scissors cut out two round blanks from it (with a diameter slightly larger than the plugs themselves).

And then we insert the foam rubber into the inside of each plug.

In addition to a piece of plastic pipe and two plugs, we also need a transition sleeve.

We put all the details together. That's it, the homemade tube for storing the electrodes is ready! Now the electrodes will be sealed and will not get wet. You can also watch the detailed manufacturing process in my video.
