The next launch of SpaceX Starship SN11 ended with the destruction of the rocket

Already the fourth test launch of the SN11 carrier rocket at an altitude of 10 km ended in another explosion. The launch of the prototype took place in conditions of heavy fog, so it was difficult to observe all stages of takeoff and landing. To outside observers, one thing became clear almost immediately: the tested rocket again failed to land and epic exploded when attempting to land.

Another test - another fiasco

Outside observers who gathered to capture the first success or another failure of Starship, this time saw little due to rather difficult weather conditions. But during landing, fragments from the exploded SN11 prototype flew to the cameras, which were located 200 meters from the launch pad.

Based on the official broadcast, the SN11 rocket was able to successfully launch, climb to a given altitude of 10 km and complete the planned series of maneuvers.

During the descent of the launch vehicle, at about 1 km above the earth's surface, the engines were restarted, and it was at this point that the broadcast was interrupted. As it turned out later, the prototype could not land and exploded.

First comments on a failed landing

The head of the company, Elon Musk, commented on the next unsuccessful landing of the prototype under test:

"At least the funnel is in the right place!"

In addition, it was noted that, according to telemetry data, problems arose with the second engine already during the ascent, as a result of which the working pressure in the chamber was not reached during landing. But according to theoretical calculations, this was not required.

A critical error occurred after turning on the engines just before landing, and what specifically what happened, will be sorted out in the very near future through a thorough analysis of all data telemetry.

More tests are just around the corner

In addition, I. Musk noted that new prototypes are being prepared at a fairly high pace, which means that new tests will take place in the very near future. Earlier, on March 3, Starship launched SN10, which managed to land, but the rocket still exploded a few minutes after the successful landing.

In that case, the engineers attributed the destruction to a helium leak from the fuel tank. In SN11, many shortcomings of previous versions were taken into account, but it seems that there is a bug in some other systems.

We will wait for the next test launch of SN12, which may finally end in success or again end in a fiasco.
