Vegetables you should definitely plant in the shade. Get a Record Harvest without any hassle
I have been growing many vegetables at my summer cottage for many years. During this time, I experimented a lot. And now I know for sure which vegetables love sunny areas, and which ones feel good in a shaded place.
It is important to know that plants that produce roots and fruits should only be placed in sunny areas. And for a harvest of leafy vegetables, you can use places in the shade.
Vegetables that tolerate shade well
The main vegetable crops that thrive in shade are:
Rhubarb
It is a versatile vegetable crop. Sour stems can be successfully used to prepare many dishes, including soup, sauces, desserts, and pickles for canning.
To get succulent stems faster, I recommend planting rhubarb from a part of the rhizome that your neighbors can share. But when planting with seeds, you will have to wait 1-2 years until the bush gets stronger;
Leafy types of salads
These include lettuce, curly cress, watercress and others, as well as sorrel, rucola. They tolerate the lack of sun color well, and in a shaded place they will give you tender and juicy leaves that do not taste bitter;
Ramson
It is a type of plant that combines the taste and aroma of garlic and onion. When adding wild garlic to spring salads, you will get not only a tasty combination, but also healthy components (vitamins and microelements).
Under natural conditions, wild garlic grows under the crown of trees, so the shade is natural for it;
Cucumber herb
In early spring, when there are no cucumbers yet, this plant will delight you with the taste and aroma of a cucumber. The plant grows well in shaded areas, tolerates short-term frosts, is resistant to pests, does not require special care. But at the same time it will provide you with early vitamin greens;
Garlic
If you plant it under trees, between bushes, you will get not large heads, but you can use such garlic to make a spicy seasoning;
Horseradish
I have it growing in the garden in the most shaded place. But still, every year it gives an excellent harvest of leaves, which I use for canning cucumbers;
· Greens
You can safely plant parsley, celery, cilantro, mint, oregano, tarragon, lemon balm, thyme in the shade. At the same time, they will delight with their greenery and aroma.
In areas where there is little sun, you can grow parsley root, celery. If you prefer not large tender beet roots, then you can also plant it in a shaded place.
