Due to which electricity for Abkhazia costs only 40 kopecks per 1 kW
Hello dear guests and subscribers of my channel. We have long been accustomed to the fact that the cost of electricity rises regularly twice a year. But there are republics in which the price for electricity is literally a penny. In this article I will tell you about how much electricity costs in the Republic of Abkhazia, as well as how the electricity deficit is covered by the Russian Federation.
How much is a kilowatt for locals
So, in order to find out the cost of electricity for the local population, it is enough to look at the Chernomorksenergo website, which publishes tariffs valid until December 31, 2021.
As you already understood, ordinary citizens pay for electricity an incredible 40 kopecks for one kilowatt * hour. And entrepreneurs pay as much as 1.5 rubles per kilowatt * hour.
A separate category of entrepreneurs is also striking, who also pay for electricity at 1.5 rubles, but in in the event of a lack of capacity and the flow of electricity from other countries, they pay already an increased rate of a maximum of 2.9 rubles per 1 kWh
Local generation
So, before talking about who pays for such low rates in Abkhazia, I want to say a few words about local generation. The main and only source of electricity is the Inguri hydroelectric power station, which generates about 1.3 GW of electricity.
But the whole catch is that this hydroelectric power station does not fully belong to the Abkhaz, and they share it with Georgia. According to an unspoken agreement, according to the principle, 60% belongs to Georgia, and, accordingly, 40% to Abkhazia. In addition, in recent years, there has been a tendency for low water content, which significantly reduces production, which is why the republic is experiencing an acute shortage of electricity.
Rolling blackouts and subsidies from the Russian Federation
In order to avoid a complete energy collapse, in 2019 due to a sharp increase in electricity consumption, which was simply caused by the incredible boom in the development of crypto farms (special structures for the extraction of virtual currencies), rolling shutdowns of whole districts.
And in order to somehow cover the increased demand, electricity supplies from the Russian Federation began via the Salkhoni (Adler) power transmission line.
At the same time, the electricity redirected from the Russian Federation to the Republic of Abkhazia was paid for at the expense of Russian financial assistance to Abkhazia.
That is, the missing capacities imported to Abkhazia are paid for by the Russian budget.
I also want to note that the consumption of electricity in the republic is growing every year and I dare to suggest that a new possible shortage of electricity (due to low water at the Ingurskaya HPP) will again be paid for by financial assistance of the Russian Federation.
